The Escambia Academy Cougars seemed to have no problem shutting Jackson Academy down when the two teams met for an AISA Class 2A battle Monday in Canoe.
EA head coach Kevin Woods started substituting players in the first quarter of the Cougars 49-38 victory over Jackson.
"We were able to execute a full court press and we forced many turnovers and turned them into easy points," Woods said. "We were patient on the offensive side of the ball and we moved it around and knocked down the open shot."
The Cougars (11-9, 3-2) held a 22-6 lead after the first quarter and pushed that lead to 34-17 by halftime.
Cody Norton and Joe Drew scored 11 points each to lead the Cougars. Andrew Lambeth added seven points, Tyler Harrison and Blake Kirk contributed six points, Tyler Brown and Alan Ash scored three points each and Ethan Brooks added two points.
