Ladies of Essence Mardi Gras ball
The Ladies of Essence Mardi Gras Ball will be held Saturday from 8 p.m. until midnight at the Wisteria.
The entertainment will be provided by radio personality, Nikki deMarks. Tickets will cost $15 per person or $25 for a couple. There is no deadline on tickets; they can be bought at the door.

Man charged with I-65 murder
Robert Ash, 36, of Quail Ridge Road, Brewton, was arrested and charged with murder on Jan. 29 in connection with a 2005 car accident on I-65. The vehicular accident occurred on July 14, 2005, on I-65 near the 53-mile marker.
The accident left one dead, and two people injured.
Gerald Anthony Munday, 34, of Cave Springs, Ga., was killed when a 1997 Cadillac in which he was a passenger ran under the trailer of a 2004 International Tractor Trailer.
Ash, the driver of the Cadillac, of Taylorsville, Ga., was transported to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. The driver of the trailer, Milad A Knalil, 55, of Fontana, Calif., was transported to Atmore Community Hospital.

FBC of Atmore to host Valentine Banquet
The First Baptist Church of Atmore will hold a Valentine Banquet Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall. The price of admission will be $5 per person. Youth are hosting and will use funds raised to help defray the cost of youth camp.
SAIL Center dance Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m.
Atmore SAIL Center will hold a Valentine's Dance Friday, Feb. 9 from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome and admission will be $5. No alcoholic beverages permitted.
Friendship Club will meet Feb. 8 at 11
The McCullough Friendship Club will meet Feb. 8 at 11 a.m. at David's Catfish House.
County BOE meets Feb. 12 at 9 a.m.
The Escambia County Commission will conduct a regular session on Feb. 12, at 9 a.m. in the County Commission Chambers, Room 201, at the Escambia County Courthouse in Brewton.
Poarch T-ball sign-up throughout February
Registration for Poarch T-ball league will be Feb. 2, 5, 9, 12, 16, 19, 23 and 26. Monday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at PCI gym.
Ages 5-7, child must be born on or after May 1, 1999 and born before May 1, 2002.
