Registration for Sports Festival begins

The Alabama Sports Festival and The Atmore Advance, a partner of the Alabama Sports Festival Statewide Newspaper Network, are pleased to announce that the Alabama Sports Festival 25th Anniversary Games will be held in the Birmingham Metro Area June 29-July1.

The 25th Annual State Games are open to all residents of Alabama, from novice to elite abilities and youth to senior citizens. The 2007 State Games will feature 20 sports including, archery/bow hunting, baseball, basketball, bowling, cheerleading, cycling, disc golf, diving, flag football, gymnastics, shooting sports, soccer, softball, swimming, Taekwondo, tennis, track and field, triathlon, indoor volleyball and wrestling.
The Opening Ceremony for all athletes will be at 7 p.m. on June 29 at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex. It will feature the Parade of Athletes, Lighting of the Cauldron, special presentations and musical entertainment.
"The Alabama Sports Festival is proud to be offering these Olympic-style games to Alabamians for the past 25 years," said Marc T. Riker, executive director of the Alabama Sports Festival. "We look forward to an enjoyable and memorable event for all participants. Be sure to be a part of the 25th Anniversary."
In its 25th year, the Alabama Sports Festival is a non-profit organization that started at the request of the United States Olympic Committee. The ASF uses athletics as a vehicle to instill the importance of academics and good citizenship skills.
