Fantastic Easter Sunday

The Atmore Advance hosted an Easter egg hunt, followed by a photo opportunity with the Easter Bunny last Thursday, in which all proceeds were donated to the Relay for Life.
The turnout for the event was astounding and, as an employee at the Advance, I appreciate the members of the community coming out and supporting our event by giving money to the American Cancer Society.
From 5:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. the Advance allowed the children to search for Easter eggs filled with chocolates and other goodies. There were two grand prize eggs, which contained the tickets for two huge Easter baskets.
I could see the excitement in the two winner's faces as they held their baskets up to take a picture with the Easter Bunny. They were proud to have been the Easter egg hunt "champions."
I do not know if I ever was a participant in any Easter egg hunts or if I ever had my picture taken with the Easter Bunny as a child. Nevertheless, I always enjoyed the fun candies and gifts I awoke to on Easter morning and I always had a new dress to wear to church for Easter Sunday. I just remember Easter as always being a pleasing holiday.
However, I am glad the tradition of buying new dresses has changed and that I am allowed to wear clothes that I already own to church on Easter Sunday, it is a good thing for my pocketbook.
Although the Easter baskets have been put to a halt, Easter is still one of my favorite holidays. I think it is because I actually understand the true meaning behind the holiday, not just the candy and all the new clothing. The real reason we celebrate Easter is because of the resurrection.
My Easter weekend was great, I got to go home, which is in Brewton, to visit with my family. I spent the night with my sister and brother-in-law and my niece, who is more adorable each time I see her.
Sunday morning we got up and went to church, where my sister, father and mother sang a trio in the Easter musical. I am not sure how they each got blessed with the musical gene and I was left out of the loop but that is beside the point. I can still at least attempt to sing.
Afterwards, my family went to my parent's house, where we enjoyed our favorite meal, which is chicken lasagna. Chicken lasagna is not the typical holiday meal, but for my family it works and it was delicious.
After all the Easter celebrations, I packed up and came back to Atmore where I enjoyed a nice and peaceful afternoon, watching "Grey's Anatomy" and napping, although I should have been unpacking and cleaning.
Holidays are so nice, especially Easter. From the Easter egg hunts for the youngsters in town, to spending time with family members and friends, to being downright lazy all afternoon, I could not have asked for a better holiday.
I hope each of you enjoyed Easter as much as I did, that you got to spend a lot of time with your family and got to celebrate a worthy holiday!
