Busy time of the year

There are so many things going on in Atmore right now so I am not at all certain what to write about, Atmore is obviously very busy this time of the year.
First of all, I think it is great that Atmore's Relay for Life has raised so much money for the American Cancer Society. I have personally lost someone to cancer and have seen how horrible the disease can be and I think anything that raises even the smallest amount of money for cancer research is awesome. I think large amounts of money are even better, and a large amount of money is just what the Relay for Life raised, more than $80,000 and still counting.
I am proud of all those people who went out and walked at the Relay for Life event and those who sponsored the event, thanks to people like you cancer patients have a chance at survival.
On a lighter note, The Atmore Advance just finished its Kindergarten tab where we asked the Class of 2019 what they want to be when they grow up and what they will need when they grow up. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all of the answers the youngsters of this town gave us. Reading all of the comments not only made me laugh hysterically but it also made me wonder what my comments would have been if I had been asked those questions back in kindergarten. It seems like there are going to be a lot of police officers, teachers and princesses when these children grow into adults. I actually met a couple of the kids to take their picture for the tab and they are truly a delight and I can honestly say I look forward to doing the special section again next year.
To write a little bit about what's coming up in Atmore, everybody should go out and enjoy Mayfest this weekend. There are going to be so many fun things at the event. The Gulf Breeze Zoo is going to bring their Zoomobile, which is like a smaller version of the zoo, on wheels. For the kids there will be carnival and pony rides and there are many vendors for everybody to enjoy at Mayfest.
The Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce has worked diligently this year for Mayfest to be a success so it's important to take a load off and enjoy the day of fun. I unfortunately am not going to be able to attend the event because of a prior engagement but I wish that I could, I think it's going to be a lot of fun and that the people who do get to go will have a blast.
Another event that I hopefully will get to attend is the Centennial Celebration. I think it's great that Atmore is turning 100 and I'm glad that I'll get to be here when it happens. I am especially looking forward to the tour around town on a horse drawn buggy.
This town has a lot going on right now and I am glad that I am a part of it. I look forward to many events and festivities to come!
