Is school tax really needed?

Well here they go again, trying to shame the citizens of Escambia County into raising our own taxes one more time. They are trying to keep this 3-mill tax on the books because "the schools need it." Don't they think we know they have enough sense to know the schools get and increase in tax revenue every time they raise the property values? (Which they do every year).
The school tax has gone from a little over $1,380,000 a year to an estimated $4,355,000 for 2006. Just how much do our schools need annually? And remember this in addition to the $33,000,000 plus that they receive from the state.
Now I am sure this letter will be buried somewhere in the middle of the paper if it is even published, but you can bet anything for this tax will either be front page or full page.
I don't know about anyone else, but I for one know I pay plenty of taxes on my property now, so I will not be voting to raise my own taxes.
All this talk about any district voting down this tax will not receive any part of this increase should it pass is simply crazy. No district can be excluded from their share of an increase simply because they feel they pay enough taxes already. Because if this tax does pass they are going to have to pay it whether they voted for or against it.
