Agency assists with electricity bill
The Community Action Agency of Escambia County will be accepting applications beginning June 1 to assist low-income families with their electricity bill. The program extends through the summer months assisting households with an allotment established by the Federal government.

100 Ladies in White celebration May 27
The Lutheran Missionary League Society of the Ebenezer Lutheran Church invites missionary societies and ladies from area churches to join them at 3 p.m. on May 27 in a celebration of 100 Ladies in White. Church choirs are asked to render an A&B Selection. Speaker will be Levada William.

Poarch Baptist
Homecoming May 27
Poarch Baptist Church will have homecoming on May 27 with Stephanie Leavins in concert at the 11 worship hour. Dinner will follow in the fellowship hall. Pastor Leo Luker Jr. and the congregation of Poarch Baptist Church welcome all to share in this time of worship.
WHMC Vacation Bible School May 28-June 8
Walnut Hill Mennonite Church invites everyone age 5 through grade 10 to attend Vacation Bible School. It will be held May 28 through June 8 from 6 p.m until 8:30 p.m.

Greater Mt. Triumph VBS begins May 28
Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church will be hosting Vacation Bible School from May 28 through June 1 from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. each day.
This year's theme is "Mission World Tour 2007."
Memorial Day service
Atmore area veterans of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, in conjunction with the American Legion, and assisted by the NJROTC Unit of Escambia County High School, will conduct a Memorial Day remembrance ceremony at Oak Hill Cemetery at 11 a.m. May 28.
The ceremony will last approximately 20 minutes and consists of a brief speech, prayer, taps and the ringing of a ceremony bell in remembrance of those men and women who paid the supreme sacrifice in defense of the freedom and lifestyle we now enjoy. Everyone is invited to join the veterans in paying tribute to our fallen heroes. Bring lawn chairs since no chairs will be provided.
In addition, area veterans assisted by the Boy and Girl Scouts and NJROTC Cadets placed flags on veterans' graves on May 26 and will remove them beginning at 8 a.m. May 29.
Meeting place for this activity will be at either the VFW Post, 206 West Ashley Street, or at the American Legion Building corner of Church and Main streets.
EA Dance classes slated May 29
Registration for summer dance classes at Escambia Academy will be held Tuesday, May 29 at 2 p.m. in the school auditorium.
The classes will offer ballet, modern jazz and gymnastics. For more information contact Reed Adams at 251-253-0047.
County Commission meeting May 29
The Escambia County Commission will conduct an adjourned regular session at 9 a.m. on May 29 in the County Commission Chambers, Room 201, at the Escambia County Courthouse in Brewton.
The Administrative Workshop will be held at 9 a.m. on May 24.
Farmers Market coupons offered
The Escambia County Council on Aging will be issuing Farmers Market coupons May 30 at the Farmers Market area next to the railroad track in Atmore from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. unless coupons are gone to prior to the ending time.
Coupons will be issued in Flomaton from 10:30 a.m. until noon at the Flomaton Town Hall on Wednesday, May 30.
In the Brewton/East Brewton area, coupons will be issued at the Civic Center on Hwy. 41 from 9 a.m. until noon May 31.
Coupons will be issued only to those who are 60 years of age and older. Please bring your driver's license or another type of valid identification. Total annual income for the household must NOT exceed:
You must be present in order to receive coupons. There will be no more coupons available once supply is exhausted at each site.
Mt. Olive Baptist revival begins May 29
Mt. Olive Baptist Church will hold a simultaneous revival May 29 through May 31.
Pastors will be Pastor Tucker from Mt. Olive Baptist Church and Pastor Johnson from Pilgrim Rest. Evangelist will be the Rev. James Hawkins of Birmingham.
Revival begins at 7:30 p.m. nightly.
PCI offering various free classes in May
The Poarch Band of Creek Indians Family Services Department is offering FREE classes to tribal members, their families and to the surrounding communities. If you are interested in any of the classes listed below, please call the Family Services Department at 251-368-9136 ext. 2600 and register, you can attend one or all the classes at no charge.
The tribe encourages anyone with a family member who is elderly or disabled to attend.

Bonner staffer visiting May 30
A staff member from the office of U.S. Representative Jo Bonner (R-AL) will be making two stops in Escambia County May 30. The purpose of these visits is to meet with any constituents who may be experiencing difficulties with the federal government and who are seeking the congressman's assistance in resolving these problems.
The representative will be available at Brewton Town Hall between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. and at Atmore City Hall between 11:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.
Summer art classes offered at new gallery

Summer Reading begins June 1
The Atmore Public Library is having their Summer Reading Program each Friday beginning June 1 through July 6 from 10 a.m until 11 a.m. for children ages 5-12.

The Ernest Ward Middle School Booster Club is holding a yard sale June 2 at the school from 6 a.m. until.
Perdido Junior High class reunion June 2
The Perdido Junior High School Class Reunion for students attending from the 1940s through the 1970s will be held on June 2 beginning at 2 p.m. at Perdido Elementary School on Co. Rd. 47 in Perdido. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. at the Perdido Elementary School.
The Reunion Committee invites anyone from the 1930s to be our special guest.
This year we would like to try "potluck." For those of you that may not know what this means, you bring your favorite dish to share with us.
The Reunion Committee will furnish the following items: drinks, plates, cups, napkins, spoons, forks, knives, etc.

Brooks Memorial VBS beginning June 4
Brooks Memorial Baptist Church will host Vacation Bible School-Game Day Central June 4-8 from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. from ages 4 thru 6th grade.
Registration will be held Saturday, June 2 at Atmore City Pool from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. All registered children will be allowed to swim.
ECTS Class of 1967 reunion meeting June 9
The Escambia County Training School Class of 1967 reunion meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on June 9 at Vasaroy Johnson's home. Immediately after the meeting, a birthday party will be held to celebrate Vasaroy's birthday.

First Assembly will offer Spanish in June
First Assembly of God will hold a Conversational Spanish Class on Monday nights at 5:30 starting June 18.
The class will go through July 23. Cost of the class is $12 for the book.
Taste of the South scheduled for Aug. 11
The annual Taste of the South food festival will be held Aug. 11 at Heritage Park.

Penton-Mitchell families needed
In an effort to identify unmarked grave sites in the historical burial ground, the Milton Cemetery Board is attempting to locate descendants of the J.S. Penton family (early 1900s), and a Mitchell family (1914). After posting a public notice, the Cemetery can declare the empty plots "abandoned" and put them up for resale.

Geography of the Holy Land Monday nights
The First Assembly of God Berean School of the Bible Study Center will begin a new study course on "Geography of the Holy Land" on Monday nights at 5:30.
The first class began May 7. This will be a four-week course. Anyone interested should call the church office at 368-4637.
Cost for the course is $122. There is an additional $20 charge for first time students.
VFW dances held every Friday night
Friday Night Dances are held at the Atmore VFW Post Veterans of Foreign Wars Friday nights from 7:30 p.m. until 11 p.m. (daylight saving time) and from 6 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. (Central Standard Time).
Dances are open to Post members and the general public as long as participants are registered as a Post member's guest for a donation fee of $5 per person. The Post's band EXIT 54 provides country and rock and roll music.
On special occasions, dance participants enjoy "potluck" finger foods or a dinner.
The VFW is located at 206 West Ashley Street in Atmore.
