The children of the Greater Mt. Triumph Missionary Baptist Church went on a tour around the world from the pews of their church through their Vacation Bible School program last week. The church's theme was "Mission World Tour 2007-I'm on a Mission" and the children took a "tour" of different parts of the world including, Swaziland, Nicaragua, the Bahamas, Liberia and Malawi.
Another church on a mission is Brooks Memorial Baptist Church, which is hosting its VBS extravaganza this week. The theme for Brooks Memorial is "Game Day Central-Where Heroes Are Made" and as of Monday, 62 children were registered. Stephanie McGhee, director of Brooks Memorial's VBS, said the children and administrators are excited about the week of fun.
"We're just real excited that the community has taken part in our VBS," McGhee said. "We have a wonderful children's fellowship and we'd like to encourage the community to come out and see what's going on at Brooks after VBS is over."
McGhee said Brooks' VBS has run well and there are plenty of projects planned for the children.
"Our VBS is running smoothly," she said. "A lot of games and activities are planned for the week and we're just really excited. We have a lot going on so the people need to come and check us out. We would like to have anybody that would like to come."
Brooks Memorial VBS is from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and will end Friday.
Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church and Brooks Memorial Baptist Church are not the only churches in Atmore hosting VBS, churches all over the town are conducting Vacation Bible School throughout the next couple of weeks.
