Joe Drew will represent the Escambia Academy Cougars one more time before he enters the collegiate world. Drew has been selected to play in the AISA Coaches' Association Baseball All-Star Game June 11 in Montgomery.
"It is exciting to be selected to play in the game," Drew said.
Drew was named an Atmore Advance Diamond King following the 2007 season. At the plate he hit for a .431 average with four home runs, 38 RBIs, 19 runs scored and only five strikeouts.
On the mound for the Cougars Drew was 1-3 with a 2.15 earned run average and 31 strikeouts in 39 innings.
"Joe definitely deserves to be an All-Star," Jason Barnett, EA's head baseball coach for 2007 said. "He will go and represent Escambia Academy well."
Barnett said the other coaches all respected Drew during the season.
"He had the respect of almost every coach we played and they tried to pitch around him the best they could," Barnett said. "When he stepped up to the plate, they realized this was a guy who could hit the baseball."
The game will be played at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery at around 7 p.m.
