Gas, water, sewer increase June 15
A dozen concerned Atmore citizens attended last Wednesday's Atmore Utilities Board town hall meeting.
"When anything of this magnitude comes before us, we feel like we need to give the people an opportunity to ask questions," mayor Howard Shell said.
The increase comes after the Alabama Department of Environmental Standards (ADEM) imposed some higher standards for the city's sewer treatment plant. To meet those standards, $11 million in upgrades are needed.
City engineer Euel Screws of Goodwyn Mills and Cawood fielded some questions citizens had, but there was no strong opposition.
