The children of Atmore have been swimming in Tom Byrne Park Pool for almost one month now. But this would not be possible without the supervision of the 14 lifeguards and swim teachers on duty.
Pool director Betty Warren has made sure the best lifeguards and swim teachers are available to the Atmore youth for many years now.
This year, Ryan Woods, Rebecca Daniel, Derrick Daniel, Austin Rogers, Haylee Gross, Scott Jensen, Jessie Pipkin, Kristen Matthews, Shelbee Gross, Sheena-Marie Currie, Baily Vaughn, Courtney English, Jessica Daniel and Spencer Rogers are patrolling the sides of the pool and protecting the children.
Veteran pool employee Sheila Rogers, who has worked at the pool for 31 years, said the lifeguard’s duties sometimes go unnoticed.
These generous lifeguards and teachers are the guardians of Tom Byrne Park Pool and they strive to keep the children, and adults for that matter, who walk through the gates safe for their entire stay inside the fences.
Warren said no matter what they do, these lifeguards and teachers will excel. And she puts her complete confidence behind the swimming and diving lessons offered at the pool.
Tom Byrne Pool has been open for 40 years in the Atmore area.”
