Those anxiously awaiting the opening of Walgreens only have to wait a few more days before the new store on Main Street opens its doors.
According to Pam Martin, the manager of the Atmore Walgreens, the store will be open June 29.
Martin said things have been going well at the store with the exception of the construction of the pharmacy, which is the reason for pushing back the opening date. The opening was scheduled for June 25, but due to some changes made in the pharmacy, management had to reevaluate and move the date to the 29th.
"Besides the pharmacy, I think everything is going smoothly," Martin said. "We are the second store in the nation to have this style of pharmacy, that's how new the design is. Our contractor had to figure out how to redo things."
The pharmacy will have three partitions and a consulting section to give privacy to Walgreens pharmacy consumers. It will also have a sitting area for customers to wait while their prescriptions are being filled.
"It will have these partitions with windows up to help with patient's privacy," Martin said. "And it will have a consulting window, also. The partitions are going to be nice, any problem a patient has can be fixed right here in the partition."
Martin said staff members from other Walgreens have come in to the Atmore location to assist in stocking shelves and putting the finishing touches on the store.
"Other employees in our district have come in and helped us out," Martin said. "We are in the Mobile district and all the people have come together to help put things up. We feel really good about the opening."
Martin said that with the new "pharmacy style" and with the photo center, Atmore residents will be pleased with the results the stores has to offer.
"The technology coming in here is amazing," she said. "Walgreens spends a lot of money in research to figure out the best way to cater to a customer's needs."
Walgreens will be open for shopping June 29 and will have a grand opening July 7.
