Joseph Andrew Peterson
ATMORE – Mr. Joseph Andrew Peterson Sr., 68, of Atmore died Saturday, June 23, 2007 at Atmore Community Hospital.
He was a native of Conecuh County and a longtime resident of Atmore. He attended school at the Escambia County Training School. He was a member of Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church and had worked for Escambia Glass Company.
He is survived by: one daughter, Doritha (Homer) Brown of Montgomery; four sisters, Mary Peterson, Lillian Day, and Brenda Thomas all of Brewton, and Nan Mosby of Castleberry; seven brothers, Caleb (Mattie) Crook, Rex (Sylvia) Crook, David (Linda) Crook, all of Brewton, Charles Crook and Raymond Peterson, both of Atmore, Lawrence Peterson of Birmingham, and Frank (Cora Lee) Jones, Jr. of Asheville, N.C.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 30, 2007 at 1 p.m. at the Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Atmore with the Rev. Willie Hawthorne, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Stallworth Cemetery in Atmore. His body will lie instate at the church one hour prior to the funeral service with Turner Funeral Chapel of Atmore officiating.
Charles Gates
ATMORE – Mr. Charles Gates, 53, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2007 in Bluff Springs, Fla.
Mr. Gates was a native of Little Rock and a lifelong resident of Atmore. He was a good farmer, helpful to anyone who needed help and attended Canoe Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his son, Donnie Blackmon of Atmore; three brothers, Robert Gates of Walnut Hill, Fla., Floyd Gates of Davisville, Fla., and Bobby Gates of Poarch; and two sisters, Willernese Coleman and Bonnie Williams, both of Atmore.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Woody Allison and the Rev. C.L. Langford officiating.
Burial will follow at Canoe Freewill Cemetery.
Visitation was held Tuesday, June 26, 2007 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be: Junior Morris, Billy Gates, Steven Knowles, Tim Powers, Lance Bethea, and Donnie Blackmon.
Honorary pallbearer will be James Burkett.
Donnie Doris Flowers Jarrell
ATMORE – Donnie Doris Flowers Jarrell, 70, of Atmore died Thursday, June 21, 2007 in Atmore. She was an examiner for Vanity Fair Mills, born in Baldwin County on Nov. 27, 1936 to the late Jimmy Fredrick and Nettie Davison Langham. She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Wilver Langham and Elmer Langham.
Survivors are: a special friend, Herman Jarrell of Little River; two daughters, Vanessa Maholovich and husband, Glen of Stockton, Jennifer Flowers Croft of McCullough; one brother, Glen Langham of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Dorothy Davis of Bay Minette; four grandchildren, Marcy Maholovich Mims and husband, Joshua of Fairhope, Jacob Maholovich and wife, April of Bratt, Fla., Tabitha Croft and Brianna Croft, both of Ocala, Fla.; four great-grandchildren, Zachary and Ansleigh Maholovich, both of Bratt, Fla., Asaisha White of Ocala, Fla. and Ella Mims of Fairhope.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at 10 a.m. in Bay Minette Cemetery in Bay Minette with the Rev. Don Davis officiating. Active pallbearers were: Jacob Maholovich, Joshua Mims, Mike Langham and Dennis Jarrell.
Family received friends, Monday evening, June 25, 2007 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc is in charge of all arrangements.
Jesse David Gibson
BRATT, Fla. – Mr. Jesse David Gibson, 78, of Bratt, Fla. died Monday, June 25, 2007 in Pensacola, Fla. He was retired from Champion Paper Co. as an operator, born in McCullough on Oct. 29, 1928 to the late Jessie Lee and Clara Bell Peacock Gibson. He was a WWII Veteran. Will always be remembered for his generous heart, loved farming, and sharing the fruits of his labor.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Ethelene O'Farrell Gibson, one brother, Herman Gibson, three sisters, Mildred Howell, Clinnie Gibson and Adell Lisenby.
Survivors are: his wife, Hazel Etheridge Gibson of Bratt, Fla.; two sons, Larry C. Gibson and wife, Carolyn, Michael D. Gibson and wife, Linda; one daughter, Linda Stabler and husband, Ronald, all of Bratt, Fla.; one brother, Johnny Gibson of Oak Grove, Fla.; two sisters, Clara Mae Gonzalez of Pensacola, Fla., Bertie Lee Miller of Brewton; eight grandchildren, Gary Gibson, David Stabler, Jennifer Colbert, Jason Stabler, Robbie Gibson, Amy Gibson, Steve White and Tracey McDonald; 12 great-grandchildren, Cruz McGhee, Ashley Gibson, Trent Freeman, Brannon Freeman, Chasen Freeman, Emily Stabler, Jessica Stabler, Kaitlyn Gibson, Morgan White, Riley White, Bryant McDonald and Jackson McDonald; numerous other relatives and friends.
Services will be Thursday, June 28, 2007 at 10 a.m. from the Shiloh Freewill Baptist Church, with Bro. Greg Bevan officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Oak Grove, Fla. Active pallbearers: David Stabler, Jason Stabler, Steve White, Brian Gibson, Jason Gibson, Cruz McGhee, Trent Freeman, and Dale Lisenby. Honorary pallbearers: Jodi Newton, R.A. Weber, Fred Hicks, Douglas Morgan, Lawrence Cooper, Bobby Quimby, Leroy Wiggins, D.O. Morgan, Eugene O'Farrell, J.C. Davis, Robert McCullough and Jimmy McElhaney.
Family will receive friends, Wednesday evening, June 27, 2007 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Mr. Gibson will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Hospice, 2001 North Palafox Street, Pensacola, Fla. 32501.
