Joe Louis Thames
WALNUT HILL, Fla. – Mr. Joe Louis Thames, 59, of Walnut Hill, Fla., died Monday, July 2, 2007 at Shands University Hospital in Gainesville, Fla.
He was a native and resident of Walnut Hill. He attended Ransom School in Cantonment, Fla. and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of New St. Paul Baptist Church where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher and on the finance and cemetery committees. He was a truck driver with Atmore Ready Mix for more than nine years and prior to that he had been the head custodian at the Davisville School. He was also a farmer, mechanic and mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Jo Ann Thames and one sister, Annie Lee Knott.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Thames of Walnut Hill; two sons, DeAundra M. Thames and LaDarrius Thames, both of Walnut Hill; two sisters, Dorothy (Dot) Pryear and Emma (David) Brown both of Walnut Hill; four brothers, Jehue and Don (Laverne) Thames, all of Owensboro, Ky., Anderson Thames of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Hercules (Barbara) Thames of Pensacola, Fla.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 7, 2007 at 1 p.m. at the New St. Paul Baptist Church in Walnut Hill. with Rev. Willie White, Pastor, officiating. Interment followed in the adjoining cemetery. His body lied instate at the church one hour prior to the funeral service with Turner Funeral Chapel of Atmore directing.
Ozell Freeman Sullivan Mayberry
ATMORE – Ozell Freeman Sullivan Mayberry, 76, of Atmore died Saturday, June 30, 2007 in Atmore. She was a homemaker, born in Birmingham on June 28, 1931 to the late Robert Belton and Minnie Reese Freeman.
She is preceded in death by a brother, Bud Freeman, and a sister, Pauline Guy.
Survivors are David Sullivan of Atmore; a daughter-in-law, Vicki Sullivan of Fairhope; two sisters, Dottie Raye and Bernice Hill of Ga.; four grandchildren, Angela Foley, Shirley Sullivan, James Sullivan and Allen Sullivan one great-grandchild, Krislyn Foley.
Memorial services are to be announced at a later date.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc is in charge of all arrangements.
James E. Gay
MOLINO, Fla. – Mr. James E. Gay, 81, of Molino, Fla. passed away Friday, June 29, 2007 at Consulate Health Care in Pensacola, Fla. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elisha E. Gay, Laura W. Gay, and step-mother, Lillian Gay, brothers, Willie Edward Gay and Dewey Gay.
He is survived by one sister, Mary G. Mooney, and husband, Richard of Atmore; a special friend, Josie Patrick of Molino, Fla.; one son, Alton E. Gay and wife, Jackie of Cantonment, Fla.; one daughter, Tina Cook of Ensley, Fla.; one aunt, Hattie Schneider of Molino, Fla.; three step-sisters, Voncile Burkett, Trudy Wilson, and Vickie Boyette; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were, Wayne Powell, Bobby Freeman, Damon Bell, John Donaldson, Doug Parker and Mike Myrick.
Graveside services were held Saturday, June 30, 2007 at Highland Baptist Church Cemetery in Molino, Fla. with Rev. John Rushing officiating. Faith Chapel Funeral Home of Cantonment was in charge of arrangements.
John Bernie Emmons
DENVER, Colo. – John Bernie Emmons was born May 7th, 1916 and departed this life the evening of July 7, 2007 in Loveland, Colo.. area hospital at the age of 91. He is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Lyn Bechard Emmons; three sons, Vincent B. Emmons of Mobile, Alan Joseph Emmons of Kansas City and Matthew John Emmons of Loveland, Colo.; one daughter, Ruthie Emmons Bailey of Georgia. John had seven grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons; Thomas Kenneth Emmons and Charles Fonde Emmons and siblings Red Emmons, Brooks Emmons, Kenny Emmons and Lorraine Emmons. John was born in Wallace and was raised in Atmore until moving to Mobile at the age of 22 where he lived until 1956 when he moved to Denver, Colo. and resided in the area until his passing. John was a carpenter by trade his entire life. A viewing will be held at Viegut Funeral Home (Loveland), Wednesday, July 11 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and services will be held the following morning, July 12, at 10 a.m. also at Viegnut.
Eunice K. Stokes
BYRNEVILLE, Fla. – Mrs. Eunice K. Stokes, 77, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2007 in Byrneville, Fla.
Mrs. Stokes was a native and lifelong resident of Byrneville, Fla., she attended the Baptist Church and was predeceased by her husband, Freddie L. Stokes and a grandson, Richard Findley.
Survivors include, three sons, Fred E. and Renee Stokes of Pensacola, Fla., Larry W. and Teresa Stokes of Byrneville, Fla., and Dick and Janie Stokes of Florala; two daughters, Marilyn E. Findley of Byrneville, Fla. and Brenda S. and David Yarter of Byrneville, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; her brother, Bub and Claudine Kimmons of Flomaton; and a brother-in-law, Frank Lesley of Byrneville, Fla.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 7, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Donnie Kimmons officiating.
Burial followed in Byrneville Cemetery.
Visitation was held Friday, July 6, 2007 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Joseph Carter
BAY MINETTE – Mr. Joseph Carter Jr., 77, of Bay Minette died Monday, July 9, 2007 at Golden Living Center in Foley.
Christian Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
