Atmore Cal Ripken State Tournament Update

Atmore 13 Linden 1
The Linden 10 year olds did not stand a chance against the host Atmore 10 year old all-stars Friday afternoon at Tom Byrne Park. Atmore used home runs by Tanner Smith and Trey McGhee to power past Linden 13-1 in Game 8 of the Alabama Cal Ripken 10-year-old State Tournament.
Smith cracked a two-run home run in the second inning to score the first runs of the game. McGhee drilled a three-run home run in what became a 10-run inning for Atmore in the third inning.
Tristan McAnally went 1-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored. Coby Smith was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Nate Smith was 3-for-3 with three runs scored.
Aaron McDonald went 2-for-2 with a double and one run scored and Brodie Amos and J.P. Sawyer each scored one run.
Tanner Smith pitched three innings for Atmore and struck out seven batters while allowing two hits. He struck out the side in the first inning.
Linden's Carson Huckabee was 1-for-1 in the game with a triple and one run scored.
Madison 13 Florence 4
The Madison 10-year-old all-stars used an eight run fifth inning to blow open a 5-3 ball game with Florence Friday afternoon.
Devin Davis was 2-for-3 at the plate for Madison with a triple and two runs scored. Chance Lowery went 4-for-4 with a double and one run scored. Michael Carlyle was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Tucker Clark went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Brent Binford had a stolen base and scored two runs.
Tyler Lynd, Terrance Humphrey, Pierre Brewton and Bradley Demirjian each scored one run.
On the mound for Madison, Davis pitched six innings and registered five strikeouts.
For Florence, Joshua Vardaman was 2-for-2 with one run scored. Johnathan Brock went 1-for-3 with one run scored and Collin Taylor and Lake Blasingame each scored one run. Vardaman and Samuel Salter split the six innings on the mound.
Childersburg 6 Madison 1
Childersburg jumped on top 2-0 after the first inning and never relinquished their lead throughout the game, winning 6-1 over Madison July 12 at 7 p.m.
Ryan Gaither went 1-for-3 at the plate for Childersburg with one stolen base and two runs scored. Gere Chatham was 1-for-2 with one run scored. Tyler Jackson, Ryan Garrett and Jamel Rosten each scored one run.
Garrett went four strong innings on the mound for the win and struck out seven batters. Gaither and Jackson pitched in relief.
Pierre Brewton scored Madison's only run and Devin Davis and Chance Lowery each went 1-for-3 at the plate. Tucker Clark had five strikeouts on the mound in the losing effort for Madison.
Tillman's Corner 22 Florence 1
Florence scored one run in the first inning, but was unable to add any more and Tillman's Corner kept on scoring, winning by the eventual mark of 22-1 in four innings.
Jason Williams led Tillman's Corner, going 3-for-5 at the plate with one home run and two runs scored. Chase Gurley was 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored. Jalen Thompson was 3-for-4 with a triple and four runs scored. Landon Laughlin also scored four runs.
Peyton Jones went 3-for-4 at the plate with four runs scored. Noah Michael was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and Tommy McComb, Hunter Beard and Danny Haskell each scored one run.
Beard, Laughlin and Jones each saw action on the mound and Jones struck out the side twice in his two innings of work.
Collin Taylor scored one run for Florence.
Atmore 18 Monrovia 8
The host Atmore 10-year-old all-stars picked up a win in grand fashion in their first game of the tournament June 12 at 5 p.m. Atmore took down Monrovia, 18-8 in five innings.
Atmore jumped out to a 14-3 lead after the third inning, but Monrovia denied the mercy rule in the fourth inning by scoring five runs to cut the Atmore lead to 14-8. But Atmore shut them down in the fifth inning and scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to end the game.
Trey McGhee drove in the final two runs with a double and was 2-for-3 in the game with a double and a run. Dalton Daniel and Scott Brantley each went 2-for-2 with a triple and two runs scored. Coby Smith was 2-for-5 with a triple and three runs scored. Brodie Amos and Tristan McAnally each scored three runs and Nate Smith and Tanner Smith each scored one run.
Aaron McDonald scored two runs and threw a complete game on the mound with four strikeouts.
For Monrovia, Grant Kochevar was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Zack Marshall went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and Blake Fitch, Will Sipes, Jordan Joiner and Aaron Davis each scored one run.
Theodore 11 Linden 6
After trailing for the first two innings of the game, Theodore came back with 11 runs in the final three innings to defeat Linden 11-6 June 12.
Chase Poole led Theodore, going 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and two runs scored. Payton Harvis went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Hunter Walker was 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
Ty Stewart was 3-for-4 with one run scored. Conor Harkey and Kadon Cross each scored two runs and Trae Murphy and Grant Lambert each scored one run.
Stewart picked up the win for Theodore, pitching four innings and recording five strikeouts.
For Linden, Carson Huckabee was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored and Sebastian Hale, Hayden Huckabee, Caleb Broadhead and Randy Champion each scored one run.
Hayden Huckabee pitched four plus innings and recorded seven strikeouts on the mound.
Childersburg 16 Florence 3
The defending Alabama 9-year-old State Tournament champion team from Childersburg opened their defense with a 16-3 stomping of Florence in Game 1 of the Alabama Cal Ripken 10-year-old State Tournament at Tom Byrne Park June 12 at 3 p.m.
Tyler Jackson led the way for Childersburg, going 4-for-4 at the plate with four runs scored, two stolen bases and a double. Jackson also pitched three innings on the mound and struck out seven batters to close the game out for Childersburg.
Zack Lightsey picked up the win, allowing three runs in three innings of work with eight strikouts on the hill. He also compiled two runs scored at the plate.
Ryan Gaither was 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Jamel Raston and DJ Averette each went 2-for-4 with one run scored. Ryan Garrett scored three runs and Gene Chatham and Justin Northcutt added one run scored for Childersburg.
For Florence, Collin Taylor, Joshua Vardaman and Samuel Salter each scored one run and Salter took the loss on the mound.
Tillman's Corner 19 Coosa 0
Tillman's Corner made short work of Coosa in Game 2 at 3 p.m. Landon Laughlin went 4-for-4 from the leadoff spot with three runs scored. Tommy McComb was 2-for-2 with one home run. Jordan Taylor went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Danny Haskell was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored. Jalen Thompson, Peyton Jones and Jason Williams each scored two runs. Hunter Stokes scored three runs and Hunter Beard scored one run. Chase Gurley and Peyton Jones each struck out three batters on the mound and Stokes also saw an inning of action on the hill.
Coosa's Brock love was hit by a pitch and he was Coosa's lone base runner for the game.
