Taste of the South slated for Aug. 11
The annual Taste of the South food festival will be held Aug. 11 at Heritage Park.
All vendors interested in participating are asked to contact the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce at 368-3305.

Fiddlers Convention planned for July 21
Plans for the 28th annual Atmore Rotary Club Fiddlers Convention are under way.
The event will be held at 2 p.m. on July 21 in the Escambia County High School auditorium. The house band will be "Down Home."
The categories of competition are as follows: vocal groups (acappela is acceptable), bands, dobro, banjo, guitar, mandolin and fiddlers. There is no registration fee. Awards are first place $100, second $75 and third $50 except for fiddlers, which is first $1,000, second $200 and third $100.

Sardis Baptist Church revival July 15-18
Sardis Baptist Church, located at 124 Sardis Church Rd., will hold revival July 15-18 with services at 6 p.m. Sunday evening and 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.
Evangelist will be Bro. Ted Bridges and interim pastor will be Bro. Earle Greene.
County meeting slated July 19
The Escambia County Community Punishment &Corrections Authority will conduct a meeting July 19 at 9 a.m. in the County Commission Chambers of the Escambia County Courthouse in Brewton.
Green-Greene-Hawkins reunion slated July 21
The Green-Greene-Hawkins Reunion will be July 21 at 10 a.m. at Sherling Lake Park and RV Camping, Pavilion 4, in Greenville.

Mineola Baptist Homecoming July 22
Homecoming will be held at Mineola Baptist Church July 22 with worship service beginning at 10:30 a.m. The guest speaker will be Alben Gaston, Associate Pastor of Woodbridge Baptist Church in Mobile. Dinner on the grounds will be followed by a singing performance by Jimmy and Debbie Roberts and the Glory Road Quartet. Pastor, Marlon Brown, invites everyone to attend.
Revival will be held at Mineola Baptist Church July 23-27 with services beginning at 7 p.m. nightly. The guest speaker will be Alben Gaston, Associate Pastor of Woodbridge Baptist Church in Mobile.
Reid State Nursing applications due July 23
Fall Semester application deadline for Practical Nursing at Reid State Technical College is July 23. Fall semester applicants for the Practical Nursing program are required to have application packets complete and in student services by July 23. A complete packet includes a nursing application, a Reid State admission application, transcripts of prior high school and college coursework, and admission test scores.

Commission meeting scheduled for July 23
The Escambia County Commission will conduct an adjourned regular session July 23 at 9 a.m. in the County Commission Chambers, room 201, at the Escambia County Courthouse in Brewton. The Administrative Workshop will be held July 19 at 9 a.m.

Atmore Community Hospital GoldenCare will present a seminar on robotic surgery, July 25, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Mayson Auditorium.

Back to School Bash scheduled for July 26
The Atmore Public Library is hosting a Back To School Bash starring Rick Rakestraw and his critters. The program will begin at 10 a.m. on July 26, and is sponsored by Friends of the Library.
Gospel singing July 27 at Martinville Baptist
There will be an evening of bluegrass gospel music at 7 p.m. on July 27 at Martinville Baptist Church.
Pastor Sonny Willingham and the congregation invite everyone to worship with Caleb Dennis and friends.
From Atmore, take Hwy. 21 North, go right on Martinville Loop or Martinville Circle and the church is on the right.

Antioch Baptist food service ends Aug. 3
Antioch Baptist Church in Freemanville will be holding a summer food service program from June 6 through Aug. 3.
Meal times will be from 11:15 a.m until 11:30 a.m. Activities include, volleyball, basketball, checkers and other games from 10 a.m. until noon.

Council on Aging selling donuts
The Council on Aging will be selling Krispy Kreme donuts for $5 per dozen. Anyone interested in supporting this event should call 368-1032 ext. 102 or 140. Orders will be accepted until Aug. 9.
Summer art classes offered at new gallery
Summer art classes will be held starting in June from 1 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Tuesday – Thursday at the new art gallery/studio, 106 W. Ridgeley St.

Annual Watermelon Jubilee Aug. 11-12
The annual Watermelon Jubilee will be held Aug. 11-12. Lots of fun for all ages. Come and enjoy juicy watermelon, art &crafts, local talent and our new and improved children's area. VFW hosts Friday night dances
Friday Night Dances at the VFW are open to the general public for a donation of $5 per participant. Country and soft rock music for dancing is provided by the VFW's FREEDOM BAND. If you like good, clean and safe fun, the VFW Post located at 206 West Ashley Street is the place to be on Friday nights from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. "Pot luck" finger food and suppers are scheduled occasionally in conjunction with the dances to add to the merriment.
Remember the VFW Post in Atmore is the place to be on Friday nights.
EA registration open until classes full
Registration for the 2007-2008 school year at Escambia Academy for grades K-4 will be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday each week from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. until all classes are full. In order to register, one must bring an original birth certificate, Alabama immunization form and social security card. There has been no increase in tuition. Leadership Atmore looking for recruits
The Leadership Atmore Steering Committee is asking all Leadership Atmore Alumni for their help in recruiting class members for 2007-2008. Please submit names to the chamber office as soon as possible.
Accepting apps for Head Start, Pre-K
Anyone looking for Comprehensive Child Development Services for children ages 3 to 5 years old can find it at Freemanville Head Start and Freemanville Pre-K. Head Start and Pre-K are now accepting applications for 2007-08. For more information contact: Community Action Agency at 251-626-2649.
