Blast to the past in D.C.
Dear Editor,
I read with interest your recent article about young Tray Smith, an Atmore resident, named by Congressman Bonner to be a House page in the fall. Given all the turmoil around the program and around being in Washington, it was truly heartening to hear a young person so excited about serving in government. I'm sure I felt the same way when I came to town for the first time in l979 to serve then Third District Congressman Bill Nichols in a similar capacity. It's sad the excitement of the first time goes away and you're left with the cynicism and skepticism that so covers this town like a blanket. Thanks for reminding me how it was and thanks to CNN for having a link to your paper's site. We do run into Eddie Tullis of the Poarch band up here from time to time, so Atmore is well represented, particularly when Mr. Smith comes to Washington.
