The Leadership Atmore Class of 2007 will be a busy group of people when Oct. 26 rolls around. The group is hosting a golf tournament at the Atmore Country Club to raise money for the renovation of the Atmore welcome signs.
"The welcome signs are the first impression a visitor would get of the city of Atmore and our Leadership class wanted to give back to the community and help improve on that first impression," Leadership Atmore Class of 2007 president Leonard Hursh said. "The golf tournament is a good way for the community to get involved in our project and be a part of making the renovations a reality. Alex Jones has done a great job planning this event."
Jones said the whole class is awaiting the arrival of the tournament.
"We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the tournament," Jones said. "We are anticipating a good turnout to support this worthwhile cause."
Each Leadership Atmore class must choose a project as their class project and the Class of 2007 has decided to update the welcome signs on highways 31 and 21.
"After several years of hurricanes and neglect, these signs are in desperate need of replacement," Jones said.
The group plans to replace the existing signs with brand new signs.
As far as the tournament goes, it will be a four-man scramble with a shotgun start at noon. There will be prizes given for the winning team as well as a longest drive and hole-in-one competition.
There will also be a "drive the green" raffle. This will consist of each player reaching the green on a drive will have their name entered into a raffle for a prize.
Players will be allowed multiple tries for a small donation. Registration forms for the tournament will be available at the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce office and at the Atmore Country Club.
"We would like to have a lot of people turn out and help us with this fundraising effort," Jones said.
