It is time for some football and Heath Gibson's Cougars are ready for the season.
"These guys are ready to hit somebody other than their teammates," Gibson said. "They get tired of hitting each other in practice and I think we are ready for the season."
Gibson said in private school football it is hard to determine how good a team is until the season starts, so the Academy's clash with the Crenshaw Christian Academy Cougars Friday will show him a lot.
The EA Cougars are coming off a 5-5 season last year and Gibson said he wants to start the season off with a win. The CCA Cougars went 3-7 last year.
Gibson said his Cougars are working hard in practice to get ready for the first game of the season, but they are focusing more on nailing down their new offensive scheme, rather than focusing on the opponent.
"We are working to make sure we know exactly what we are doing on each play," Gibson said. "We know some of the things they do and we are preparing for that as well. But mainly we are focusing on what we will be doing."
The nervous energy felt in the EA locker room on Friday night will be nothing new, according to Gibson.
"There is always that nervous energy before the first game because guys don't know what to expect," he said.
To win Friday, Gibson said EA has to execute a few goals.
"We need to be able to execute and cut down on the penalties and mental mistakes," Gibson said. "I will be pleased if they give it all they have and cut out the mental mistakes."
