Every Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. WNSI 105.9 FM in Atmore has "Girl Talk" hosted by Atmore resident Susan Smith.
Today's special guest will be Dr. Tommy Moore. Moore is a local vet who will be speaking about "how to have a healthy pet." He will discuss ways to keep pets safe during the extremely hot and dangerous weather, as well as general information regarding the care of pets. A healthy pet is very important, especially if it is around children.

The Atmore Public Library will be starting the Wee Ones Program on Sept. 6 at 10 a.m. Wee Ones follows the school year calendar.

Legion hosts line dancing classes

McCullough Christian Center yard sale
McCullough Christian Center will be hosting a multi-family yard sale, rain or shine in the air-conditioned gym, Sept. 8 from 7 a.m. until noon. McCullough Christian Center is located at 240 Booneville Road (at the end of Jack Springs Road).
There will be free coffee and donuts while they last and all proceeds will benefit McCullough Christian Center, Inc.

Hunter education class Sept. 8-9
Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries will sponsor a hunter education class Sept. 8-9 at Jefferson Davis Community College, Atmore campus. On Sept. 8 the courses will be held from 8 a.m. until noon and 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Students will need to make lunch arrangements for Sept. 8. Students that have taken the Internet or CD course need to come on Sept. 9 only from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.
Students must be at least 10 years old to receive credit.
Anyone born on or after Aug. 1, 1977 must pass a certified hunter education course before they can purchase a hunting license in Alabama. The course is nationally accredited and free to the public. No pre-registration is required. Students will need their social security number. Everything else will be provided.
Students must attend both days to receive credit. Students who have taken the Internet or CD course must only attend Sept. 9. They must bring the printed report to the field day. You can access this course by logging on to www.outdooralabama.com/hunting/education/. CDs are available at the county extension office or by contacting the district 5 W&FF Headquarters at 251-626-5474.

Holy Spirit Women's Conference Sept. 8
Holy Spirit Women's Conference with the Rev. Jean Spikes and Ruth Harrell will be held Sept. 8 at First United Methodist Church in Atmore. Registration is at 9 a.m. and the conference begins promptly at 9:30 a.m.
Music will be by Lana Langford and Renee Hardy.
Lunch will be served and services will conclude mid-afternoon. There is no charge to attend the conference. An offering will be taken for the speakers and musicians.

Ebenezer Lutheran 81st anniversary party
Ebenezer Lutheran Church invites all congregations to come and join them as they celebrate the joyous occasion of their 81st church anniversary and mortgage burning ceremony Sept. 9.
These special services will take place at 3 p.m. and the church is asking all choirs to bless the service with an A &B selection.
The theme will be "In Ages Past, Present, and Future" and the theme scripture is Hebrews 12:1. The church looks forward with great anticipation to all congregations attendance and joining them in this high praise and thanksgiving to our Saviour Jesus Christ the Lord.
Little Escambia Baptist revival Sept. 9
A revival will be held at Little Escambia Baptist Church with guest speaker evangelist Don W. Graham Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. and Sept. 10-14 at 7 p.m. On Sept. 9 children's night will be at 4:30 p.m. On Sept. 11 there will be a Patriot Day service at 6 p.m. and on Sept. 12 there will be a youth night at 5:30 p.m.
Christian motorcycle meeting Sept. 9

The Community of Christ Church in Huxford will hold its annual homecoming Sept. 9. Singing will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Commission session slated Sept. 10
The Escambia County Commission will conduct a regular session on Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. in the County Commission Chambers, room 201, at the Escambia County Courthouse, Brewton. The Administrative Workshop will be held Sept. 6, at 9 a.m.
County Library board meeting Sept. 11
The Escambia County Library System Board will meet Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. at the Flomaton Public Library.
The meeting is open to the public.
Lupus support group meeting Sept. 12
There is a lupus support group meeting every second Wednesday of each month at D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital in Brewton. The next meeting is scheduled for Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. and lunch will be provided. The topic is "living with chronic pain."
There is no fee to attend the meetings. They are sponsored by Lupus Support Network, which provides education, support and assistance to those affected by Lupus.
Printed materials are available at the meetings on lupus and other autoimmune diseases including fibromyalgia, scheroderma, rheumatoid arthritis and sjogrens syndrome, plus more. All are offered free of charge.

GED given at Reid State Sept. 26-27
The GED test at Reid State will be held Sept. 26-27. The four parts (Writing/Essay, Social Studies, Science and Reading) of the GED test will be given.
All applicants must pre-register for the GED test. Registration is Sept. 24-25 from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Building #100.
The GED test will be given Sept. 26-27 in Building #100. Applicants need to bring a picture ID and social security card.

Blood drive slated for Oct. 11 at City Hall
The Atmore Fire Department and the American Red Cross will be hosting a blood drive Oct. 11 from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. The blood drive will be held in Atmore City Hall in the auditorium.
All donors will receive a free T-shirt and two weeks of free tanning at Club Sun.
