Jarman headed to New York with Nall enjoys exercising at the Atmore YMCA

(This week The Atmore Advance spotlights Elsie Nall. She has been in the Atmore community since she was eight months old. Nall stayed married to her husband, Leo, for 63 and a half years before he passed away. She is the mother of six children, the grandmother to eight and the great grandmother to four.)
Q: When and where were you born?
A: I was born out in the Salem community. There is practically nothing to it anymore. Then my parents moved to Atmore when I was eight months old. I was born on April 21.
Q: Who were your parents?
A: They were Rufus and Polly Hardee.
Q: Do you have any brothers or sisters?
A: I had three sisters, they are all dead now.
Q: Where did you attend high school and college?
A: Here in Atmore, for 12 years.
Q: Did you have any college?
A: I had no college.
Q: Do you do a lot of traveling?
A: Not anymore. When my sons were in the service I'd go visit them, but not anymore.
Q: Where all did you go when traveling?
A: South Florida, Las Vegas, Texas and Louisiana.
Q: What was your favorite?
A: I don't think I have any favorites.
Q: What jobs have you held?
A: Keeping house, I never worked much. When my husband died the pastor came to visit and asked if I ever worked. I told him that I didn't have time. Buying groceries, doing laundry and taking care of everything was a full-time job.
Q: Did you ever marry?
A: Yes, to Leo Nall.
Q: How long were you married?
A: For 63 and a half years.
Q: Do you have any children or grandchildren?
A: Yes, six children. All of them are still alive.
Q: What are their names?
A: Webb Nall here in Atmore, Joe in Bay Minette, Bob in Oklahoma, Elsie Butler in Atmore, Merrill in Muscle Shoals and Polly in Montgomery.
Q: Any grandchildren or great grandchildren?
A: Eight grandchildren, six boys and two girls. And, four great grandchildren.
Q: Where do you attend church?
A: First Baptist Church
Q: What keeps you busy these days?
A: Going to exercise classes at the YMCA. And I play dominoes at the church on Thursday.
Q: What's your favorite TV show?
A: Baseball games.
Q: Who's your favorite team?
A: The Atlanta Braves.
Q: What's your favorite food?
A: I like all of them. Everything except for seafood.
Q: What advice would you like to give people on staying healthy?
A: Stay active and eat right and go to church.
