Huxford Elementary School presents "Evening at the County Fair" Fall Carnival 2007 Oct. 4 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Tickets are four for $1 the day of the carnival.
There will be carnival games, a cakewalk, a dunking tank, a country prize box, a hayride and a Pepsi toss.
There will also be grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, popcorn, nachos and cheese, cotton candy and candied apples.

Motorcycle ministry meeting Oct. 4
The Motorvators for Christ Motorcycle Ministry will have a meeting Oct. 4 at 6:30 p.m. at David's Catfish in Brewton. The next Motorvators for Christ Motorcycle Ministry fellowship ride will be held Sept. 30 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. All who are interested in riding should meet in downtown Brewton in the parking lot at the boardwalk, behind the Bank of Brewton.
Church of God hosts fish fry, BBQ event
The Atmore Church of God located at 90 Jack Springs Road will hold a fish fry and BBQ buffalo wings event Oct. 5 from noon until 6:30 p.m.
Individuals can eat at the church, pick up their food and take it with them or can have their food items delivered to their place of employment.
The menu includes fresh fried mullet or BBQ buffalo wings, baked beans, potato salad or cole slaw and hushpuppies.
Tickets are on sale now. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under age 12.

Annual church sale slated Oct. 5-6
New Home Church located at 1209 Poarch Road in Atmore will be holding their fifth annual church and bake sale Oct. 5-6 from 8 a.m. until. There will be thousands of items at the event for sale.
Harvest Festival scheduled for Oct. 6
Bethel United Methodist Church located on Hwy. 21 in Atmore will have a Harvest Festival at the church Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Advanced tickets will be five for $1 and day of event four for $1. Come join in on the fun, food and games. There will also be a silent auction. "Taste of Heaven" cookbooks will be on special for $10 each. All proceeds will go toward restoration of the old sanctuary.
SAIL Center yard sale scheduled for Oct. 6
The Atmore SAIL Center will host a yard sale Oct. 6 from 8 a.m. until noon at 300 E. Ridgeley Street, inside the building.
Lassiter and Wall family reunion Oct. 6
The Lassiter and Wall family reunion will be held at Little River State park at 11 a.m. on Oct. 6. Bring lawn chairs.
There will be an admission at the gate. Rates are as follows, 12 and over $1, 11 and under 50 cents.

Homecoming event anniversary at Osaka
There will be a homecoming anniversary at 2 p.m. Oct. 7 at Osaka Free Will Baptist Church in Flomaton.
We will not be having a traditional homecoming this year. We are combining our Homecoming Service and our pastor the Rev. and Mrs. James Johnson's 60th anniversary celebration. There will be a singing, praying, preaching, fellowship and good food. Please come and celebrate with us!
Brewton church holds revival Oct. 7
First St. Siloam Missionary Baptist Church will be holding Revival starting Oct.7 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Neimiah Cooler as the opening service speaker. Nightly services will start at 7 p.m. Oct.8 through the 10 with the Pastor Willie Frank Osby as the guest speaker.

Novel in second round of online contest
Atmore resident Bonnie Latino has made it through the first round of an online contest where people could vote for the first chapter of her book, "Your Gift to Me."
During the first round, "Your Gift to Me" finished in first place out of 296 entries.
The novel is now going through the second round of voting, which ends Oct. 8. All the votes from round one are wiped out and "Your Gift to Me" must gather new votes and comments.
To vote for Latino's romantic and patriotic novel about a woman from a town called Williams Station, visit www.yourgifttome.net and watch the minute and a half long video that tells the whole story of the book. At the end of the video there are directions on how to vote.
It is important to leave a comment after voting, even if it is just one word, in case there is a tie. If there is a tie, the author with the most comments will be the winner.
Latino is vying for publication with publishing company Simon and Schuster.

First Presbyterian to host reception
First Presbyterian Church will host a reception for its new minister, Rev. James Thorpe, and his family on Oct. 7 at 3 p.m. The reception will be held in the church fellowship hall at 208 East Horner Street. The community is invited to come and join in welcoming the Thorpes to Atmore.
Neighborhood watch group to meet Oct. 9
Canoe/Robinsonville/Wawbeek neighborhood watch group will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. on Oct. 9 at the Canoe Civic Center.
The group encourages anyone in those areas to please plan on attending.
ECHS homecoming 2007 approaching
It's that time again. Escambia County High School Homecoming 2007 is approaching fast. This year's theme is "Bury the Tigers." Homecoming will be Oct. 8-12 and is going to be the best homecoming week yet.
The Student Government Association would like graduated classes that ended with a "7" to join them at the Alumni Tea on Oct. 12 at 10 a.m. in the ECHS media center. Refreshments will be served. They would also like the alumni to stay and judge the annual homeroom door competition and be present at the homecoming pep rally.
Also, on Oct. 12, there will be a "Bury the Tigers" Homecoming Parade at 2:30 p.m. The parade route is to be announced. SGA would also like to ask that all past homecoming queens from any year come and represent their senior class at the homecoming game halftime show.

FBC participates in Christian Care
First Baptist Church Atmore will participate in the ministry of the Atmore Area Christian Care Ministry. Receptacles will be placed in the sanctuary for the donations and food items.
Items particularly needed include, canned meats, canned pasta, canned fruit, corn meal, flour and cooking oil.
Blood drive slated for Oct. 11 at City Hall
The Atmore Fire Department and the American Red Cross will be hosting a blood drive Oct. 11 from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. The blood drive will be held in Atmore City Hall in the auditorium.
All donors will receive a free T-shirt and two weeks of free tanning at Club Sun.

PCI requests quotes for annual Pow Wow
PCI's 37th annual Pow Wow is scheduled for Nov. 22-23. They would like to extend to you the opportunity to assist them by providing a quote for the development and printing of the annual program, which will include Tribal history, information and pictures of the Tribal Council and Pow Wow committee, pictures and bios of head staff (master of ceremonies, arena director and host drums), information and photos of princess contest and outgoing senior princess, general Pow Wow information, schedule of events and ads (full page, half page, and quarter page).

Trinity hosts 13th annual Maine event
The 13th annual Maine event is coming to Trinity Episcopal Church Oct. 13 at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $20 per steamed lobster. Two options are available: dinner in the Parish Hall with all the trimmings or pick up the lobster(s) to take home.

Wilmer Hall Children's Home is a non-profit diocesan agency located in Mobile. The home has served abused, abandoned and neglected children with residential and educational services since 1864. This lobster sale raises much needed funds used to provide services for the children.

Friday night dances at VFW open to public
Friday Night Dances at the VFW are open to the general public for a donation of $5 per participant. Country and soft rock music for dancing is provided by the VFW's FREEDOM BAND. If you like good, clean, safe fun, the VFW Post located at 206 W. Ashley Street is the place to be on Friday nights from 7:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. "Pot luck" finger food and suppers are scheduled occasionally in conjunction with the dances to add to the merriment. Remember the VFW Post in Atmore is the place to be on Friday nights.
County school system seeks information
In accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) Part B of 2004, the Escambia County School System seeks to locate and identify children ages' birth through 21, who because of handicapping conditions, may be in need of special education and/or related services. Referral and evaluation may begin at 30 months for preschoolers.
