Anyone wanting to donate to a good cause and get a cold treat at the same time should stop by Chilly's Gourmet Shaved Ice today.
Every single penny of income earned today at Chilly's will go towards Poorman Outdoors' donation to the Kids Hunting for a Cure program associated with St. Jude Children's Hospital.
Chilly's owner, Jason Presnall, is the president of Poorman Outdoors and said the organization was invited to partake in the Kids Hunting for a Cure event.
"We were invited to be a part of this event and any time we can get outdoors and help kids, it is a win-win situation," Presnall said. "We will be able to help kids that have a dream of going hunting and they can't do it on their own."
Poorman Outdoors CEO Wade Smith agrees with Presnall.
"Any time we have the opportunity to give back to someone that doesn't have the same opportunities we have, we jump on it," Smith said.
Poorman Outdoors will participate in the first of the Kids Hunting for a Cure event Oct. 27-28 at the Lincoln County fairgrounds in Fayetteville, Tenn.
Kids Hunting For a Cure is a non-profit organization that provides financial support to research hospitals/foundations dedicated to developing cures for cancer and childhood diseases. Monies are raised by children and adults through community-sponsored outdoor events designed for youth, according to the Kids Hunting for a Cure Web site.
There will be 250 children involved in the Oct. 27-28 event and Smith said it should be a great experience.
"We can't wait to go on the hunt," he said. "We are sponsoring one of the children and we will be hunting with that child and filming their every move so they can remember that day."
Presnall said the program's goal is great.
"The goal of Kids Hunting for a Cure is to get the program in every state," he said. "And we are looking for land in this area that we might be able to host the event. So if there is anyone out there that would like to help, contact us."
Poorman Outdoors was organized in August of 2006 and to get in touch the group, go to the Poorman Outdoors Web site at poormanoutdoors.com. And for more information on Kids Hunting for a Cure, visit kidshuntingforacure.org.
