Firefighters help prevent emergencies
Think all firefighters do is wait around the fire house for something to happen? Think again.
Activities for National Fire Prevention Week earlier this month were a reminder that our area professional and volunteer firefighters do much more than respond to fires, accidents and emergencies.
Over the past several months, for example, they have installed smoke detectors in many area homes.
And they also take on the valuable role of educating residents about fire safety and fire prevention – starting with the youngest among us. Firefighters took time last week to visit area elementary school children to introduce them to fire safety lessons.
Fire prevention is one of those things many of us take for granted.
But with temperatures getting cooler, we all need a reminder about the precautions we need to take with our heating methods this fall and winter.
