Last year Lou Vickery and a group of concerned citizens formed a committee and they selected seven individuals to be recognized as the inaugural members of the Atmore Area Hall of Fame.
Well it is time to induct the second group of current and former Atmore citizens who have helped their communities in some form or fashion. On Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. in the gymnasium of the Atmore Area YMCA and Community Center, Herbert Barnes, Marva Collins, William M. Carney, Dr. Ben Maxwell and Patricia McKenzie will be honored as the second class of the Atmore Area Hall of Fame.
"I am so excited about this group of people because they are so great," HOF committee chairman Loy Vickery said.
Vickery said the one living member of the induction class, Marva Collins, may be in attendance next Saturday night.
"We are sitting on pins and needles waiting to hear back from her," he said. "That would be great to have her at the event."
As of right now, Vickery said 85 tickets have been sold and he expects around 130-150 people to show up for the event.
This class is smaller than the inaugural class, but Vickery said there is no difference in his heart.
"We are as excited as we were the first time we did all this," Vickery said.
What's Cooking will provide the catering for the evening. Tickets are available at First National Bank &Trust, United Bank, The Paper Station and The Atmore Advance.
"There are still many tickets available and we need to raise as much money as we can to continue to hold this event," Vickery said.
