Rodgers featured on today's 'Girl Talk'
Every Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. WNSI 105.9 FM in Atmore has "Girl Talk" hosted by Atmore resident Susan Smith.
Today's guest is Child Nutrition Program Director for the Escambia County Public Schools Cynthia Rodgers. Rodgers will be talking about the different programs offered in area schools and upcoming events that will take place for Wellness and Nutrition Month, which is November. She will also talk about how nutrition plays an important role in your child's learning process.

Atmore HOF banquet tickets on sale now
Tickets for the second annual Atmore Area Hall of Fame banquet are still on sale. Tickets can be purchased at First National Bank &Trust, United Bank, The Paper Station and The Atmore Advance.
The banquet will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Atmore Area YMCA &Community Center building. The five inductees include, Herbert Barnes, Marva Collins, William M. Carney, Dr. Ben Maxwell and Patricia McKenzie.

ECHS started fruit sale for holidays
Escambia County High School has started their annual Florida Fresh Fruit sale fundraiser. Fresh navels, tangelos, juice oranges, grapefruits and red delicious apples will be delivered just in time for the Christmas Holidays. To place your order, please call the high school at 368-9181. Organization holds meeting today
The Commercial Development Authority will have an organizational meeting Nov. 7 at 3 p.m. at City Hall in the Council Chamber to elect officers and approve documents that will allow transfer of properties from the Commercial Development Authority and the City of Atmore.
Faith Church of God holds special events
The Faith Church of God in Christ in Atmore will be having special events throughout the remainder of the week. Tonight's endtime is from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a musical hour and guest speaker Elder P. Enfinger. Nov. 8 endtime is from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a musical hour and guest speaker Evangelist Longmire and the Rev. Howard Church. On Nov. 9 the endtime is from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a musical hour. On Nov. 10 the endtime is from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a musical hour. The speaker is Bishop Charlie Cunningham. The Nov. 11 event is at 2 p.m. with a musical hour with the guest speaker as Bishop A.J. Williams. The program is subject to change.
Meeting of county Retirees Nov. 8
The regular meeting of the Escambia County Education Retirees Association, formerly called Escambia County Teachers Association, will be held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 8 in the W.S. Neal High School library in East Brewton. The guest speaker will be Rep. Alan Baker, State Representative, District 66.
Lunch will be available for those persons desiring lunch. All education retirees on any level, as well as persons interested in public education, are urged to attend this very important meeting.
Boston Butts for sell at Atmore VFW
Veterans of Atmore area VFW Post are selling Boston Butts for Veterans Day weekend. Butts are $20 each and can be picked up at 206 W. Ashley Street or have delivered from 9 a.m. until noon on Nov. 9.

Club BBQ sell slated for Nov. 9
The Progressive Civic and Recreational Club will be selling BBQ at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9 until all is sold at its club building at 206 Park Drive.
Rib Dinners will be $8, chicken dinners will be $6, rib sandwiches will be $5 and chicken sandwiches will be $4.
All dinners come with bread, potato salad and cole slaw. To place orders call 368-3303 or 294-0863. All proceeds will be used for P.C.R.C's. 2007 Scholarship Program.

Nokomis sells Boston Butt Roasts Nov. 10
A Boston butt roast fundraiser sponsored by the Nokomis Volunteer Fire Department will be held Nov. 10. Orders will be taken at the Fire Station located at 163 James Road from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. the day of the events or you can place an order anytime by calling Wayne Hubbard at 368-5800 or leave a message at the fire station at 368-5489.
The Boston butts will be ready for pickup on Nov. 17 after 2 p.m. The cost will be $25 and all proceeds will go towards the purchase of new equipment for the department.
Health departments provide flu shots
Esc. County Health Departments Flu and Pneumonia Clinics will be held in Atmore on Nov. 9 and in Brewton on Nov. 7 from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.
Clinics will be at the Health Department.
Gospel Temple celebrates six years
Gospel Temple of Pensacola, Fla. Inc. located at 621 Brazzell Hill Road in Atmore will be celebrating its sixth year anniversary beginning Nov. 7 and climaxing Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. The church anticipates having a glorious time in the Lord and hopes that you will join them for this wonderful occasion. ACH hosts jewelry sale in November
Atmore Community Hospital Auxiliary will sponsor a jewelry sale by Phantasia's Nov. 8 through Nov. 9 from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Nov. 10 from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Mayson Auditorium.

My Father's House Church to host fish fry
My Father's House Baptist Church will host a Fish fry from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Nov. 9. Plates will include Catfish filets, two sides, hushpuppies and desert for $6.

Miss Alabama Indian Contest on Nov. 10
The Miss Alabama Indian Contest will be Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. at the Alabama State Capitol Auditorium in Montgomery, the entrance is on Union Street. The event is free of charge.
The Miss Alabama Indian receives a scholarship. In addition to the Miss Alabama Indian Affairs Contest. The MaChis Lower Creek Indian Tribe and Tribal Business will be receiving an award. All members are encouraged to attend. Everyone is invited to attend.
Christmas Bazaar slated Nov. 10
The Fourth Annual Christmas Bazaar will be held from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Nov. 10 at Guy's Chapel United Methodist Church, located at 55080 Rabun Road in Bay Minette.
Breakfast items for sale will include sausage biscuits or pancakes with your choice of sausage or bacon. Lunch items will be hot dogs with chips and a drink or a barbeque sandwich with chips and a drink.
Vendors available, Pampered Chef, Beautiful Control Makeup, floral arrangements, baked goods, jellies, preserves, bird house arrangements and beaded items.
Proceeds will go towards the building fund at Guy's Chapel.

Atmore Baptist Temple hosts revival
Thanksgiving Revival at Atmore Baptist Temple will be held Nov. 11 through Nov. 14. Sunday services will be held at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday services will be at 7 p.m. nightly. The revival will feature the Old Fashioned Bible Preaching of Pastor Steve Goolsby.

GECA to perform Nov. 10, 11 at FPC
The Greater Escambia Council for the Arts (GECA) will be presenting "Harvey" on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Atmore. Tickets are available at the door; adults are $8 and children are $6. As always, GECA members and season pass holders will be admitted with your membership card.

Coupons available at Farmers Market
The Alabama Farmers Market Authority is reminding coupon recipients of the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) that the deadline to redeem their voucher is Nov. 15.
The $20 vouchers that were issued through the Area Agency on Aging expire next month and cannot be used after that date.
Coupons can be redeemed at the Atmore Farmers Market next to City Hall Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Lutheran Church hosts Harvest Home
The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod of Ebenezer Lutheran Church invites the community to come and celebrate its Harvest Home the Second Sunday in November, which will be Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. The church is asking for Choir(s) for and A and B selection.
The Speaker for the occasion will be Pastor Ulmer Marshall Jr., of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobile.

Neighborhood Watch meeting on Nov. 13
The Canoe, Robinsonville, Wawbeek Neighborhood Watch Program will hold a meeting Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Canoe Civic Center.
NHS Advisory Council meeting on Nov. 13

Junior Auxiliary group meetings scheduled
The monthly meeting of the American Legion JUNIOR Auxiliary is held on the first Thursday of each month at 4 p.m. in the Second Floor Activity Room of the American Legion. Any eligible girl under 18 years of age is welcome.
Parents may contact Mary Stanley at 368-5769 to check eligibility or come to the meeting as scheduled. Parental involvement is permitted and encouraged.
Fall carnival in Poarch slated Nov. 17
Friendly Holiness Church in Poarch will be having a Fall Carnival from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov.17, 2007. There will be games, a cakewalk, and a gospel singing. A hayride will begin at 5 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.
Morning Dove enjoys 100 years of service
Morning Dove Baptist Church in Perdido will celebrate its 100th birthday Nov. 18 at 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome. The pastor is the Rev. Stanley Cox.
Trinity Church to hold "Blue Mass" Nov. 18
Trinity Episcopal Church will conduct "Blue Mass," a service of Thanksgiving to honor Atmore's police officers, firefighters and ambulance services. The event will be held on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m., the Holy Eucharistic service will include a special Prayer of Thanksgiving for our city's first responders – the men and women who risk their own lives and safety to protect the citizens of Atmore. The public is invited to attend this joyful service of thanksgiving.
Commission meeting scheduled Nov. 19
Please take notice that the Escambia County Commission will conduct a regular session at 9 a.m. Nov. 19 in the County Commission Chambers, Room 201, at the Escambia County Courthouse in Brewton.
The administrative workshop will be held at 8:30 on Nov. 15.
Legion Auxiliary sponsors yard sale
The American Legion Auxiliary will be sponsoring an "Indoor Yard Sale" on Friday, Nov. 16, from 6 a.m. until 4 p.m. Barbeque pork sandwiches will be available for sale as well. Proceeds from this sale will be used to update some building facilities.
The American Legion Auxiliary is seeking the identity of any area active military families who will be separated from their children at Christmas. The American Legion and Auxiliary would like to have the children and spouse present at "Breakfast with Santa" on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 10 a.m. If you know of families who will be in this situation, contact the American Legion at 446-1403 (voice mail).
We need to have these names by the middle of Nov., so that we can contact Santa about the child's Christmas wishes at the American Legion.
