Wilson Avenue will close tomorrow
For those that frequent Wilson Avenue, you will need to use an alternate route beginning today.
According to a notice from Atmore City Hall, the portion of Wilson Avenue from Ridgeley Street to Hwy. 31 (Nashville Avenue) will be closed beginning tomorrow until a construction project is completed.

Participants needed for research study
Baptist Clinical Research is seeking participants for a diabetic neuropathy treatment study. Men and women who have been diagnosed with diabetic neuropathy ages 18 to 70 with a blood glucose level no greater than 300 should apply. Those responding will be screened further to determine eligibility.
Those eligible will take part in a 20-week study that includes six visits at Baptist Clinical Research study center. Study related medical and lab procedures will be performed at no cost. Call Baptist Clinical Research (850) 469-2491 to be screened for participation in this study.

Escambia County High School has started its annual Florida Fresh Fruit sale fundraiser. Epilepsy program Nov. 27 in Mobile
The Epilepsy Foundation of South Alabama and Glaxosmithkline are presenting a Patient Advocacy Conference, "Questions I Always Wanted to Ask about Epilepsy?" Program Panelists: Ivan Lopez, M.D. and Renay Drinkard, CRNP, Epilepsy Foundation Staff from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Nov. 27 at the Marriott Hotel, located at 3101 Airport Boulevard, Mobile.

White honored Nov. 30 in Brewton
The public is cordially invited to attend a reception to honor F.P. "Skippy" White for his 24 years of service in the State of Alabama House of Representatives.
The event will be held Nov. 30 from 3:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Escambia County Courthouse in the main courtroom.
The Perrys in concert Nov. 30 in Pineview

"Strings of Praise" in concert Dec. 2
"Strings of Praise" will be presenting a special Christmas Concert at 11 a.m. Dec. 2 at Woodlawn Methodist Church. This is a violin ensemble composed of four teens and their violins.
The Revs. Kenneth Johnson and Thomas Smith invite everyone to join them for this wonderful time of worship.
Woodlawn Church is located between Repton and Monroeville on U.S. Highway 84 East.
Calvary Temple hosts revival Dec. 3-7
Calvary Deliverance Temple will have revival Dec. 3-7 at 7 p.m. nightly. The Rev. Tony McCullough will be the speaker.
Christmas Parade scheduled for Dec. 8
The Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce's annual Twilight Christmas Parade will be held Dec. 8.
The parade will begin at 5 p.m. at Atmore City Hall. It will proceed down Ridgeley Street and turn on to Main Street and travel south to Lindberg Avenue where it will end at Escambia County High School.
To participate in the parade, obtain an entry form from the Chamber office located in the Atmore Area YMCA & Community Center and fill it out before Dec. 3. A $25 entry fee will be charged for float entries, which will be eligible for judging. There isn't a charge for participants such as marching bands, clowns and characters and antique cars.
Deadline nearing for Toys for Tots
The Concerned Citizens of Atmore's annual Toys for Tots with the U.S. Marine Corps distribution will be held Dec. 21. All needed families must register before Dec. 8. Must be ages 0-14 for qualification. Donations are welcome.

The Harris St. A.O.H. Church is having a 100 Women in Black Program at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 9.

Coalition against C&S meets weekly
The coalition against C&S Chemicals locating on Woods Road in Atmore holds a meeting every Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at New Order Baptist Church.
Legion Auxiliary schedules meetings
American Legion Auxiliary meeting is held the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion building.

Friday night dances at VFW open to public
Friday Night Dances at the VFW are open to the general public for a donation of $5 per participant. Country and soft rock music for dancing is provided by the VFW's Freedom Band. If you like good, clean, safe fun, the VFW Post located at 206 W. Ashley Street is the place to be on Friday nights from 7:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.
"Pot luck" finger food and suppers are scheduled occasionally in conjunction with the dances to add to the merriment. Remember the VFW Post in Atmore is the place to be on Friday nights.
Atmore Church of God starting clubs
The Atmore Church of God is starting a Boys Club and a Girls Club. Ages will range from 5 years through 16 years of age. They are inviting all boys and girls to join the club and enjoy the activities. If you are interested and need further information contact Pastor Glenn Bryars on Wednesday evening or Sunday morning or evening at the Atmore Church of God located at 90 Jack Springs Road in Atmore.
Junior Auxiliary group meetings scheduled
The monthly meeting of the American Legion JUNIOR Auxiliary is held on the first Thursday of each month at 4 p.m. in the Second Floor Activity Room of the American Legion. Any eligible girl under 18 years of age is welcome.
Parents may contact Mary Stanley at 368-5769 to check eligibility or come to the meeting as scheduled.

ECHS students offer peers help in courses
Escambia County High School students who have not passed the graduation exam will take the test again in December.
Those students have the opportunity for tutoring at the high school Monday through Thursday, both during and after school.
Students can receive assistance in science, math, social studies, English and reading.
Student tutors are working the program and students who need assistance will receive individualized assistance. The priority of the program is to help those who need to pass the graduation exam, although students who are having difficulties in their courses may also be tutored. Several teachers on staff at ECHS are familiar with the requirements of what the students need to pass the graduation exam and are helping with the program.

Legion dances held Saturday nights
American Legion dance is held every Saturday night from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. unless there is a fifth Saturday in the month. Donation of $5 taken at the door.
