The Northview Lady Chiefs keep rewriting history with every win they obtain this season. The squad is junior-heavy with six juniors, one senior and one sophomore.
The Lady Chiefs won their sixth consecutive game over W.S. Neal Nov. 27 to open the season 6-0. NHS took down East Hill Nov. 15 for a 4-0 start that was the best start in school history.
Following the win the Lady Chiefs added wins over Flomaton High School Nov. 20 and W.S. Neal Nov. 27 for the 6-0 record.
NHS head coach Lorenzo Jones said the girls fought hard against Neal for the win.
"Our conditioning allowed Neal to stay in the game with us," Jones said. "But in the end we were able to come from behind and steal a victory with a minute to go in the game."
The Lady Chiefs trailed the Lady Eagles 34-32 late in the game and were in foul trouble. Junior Brittney Thompson made two steals to help NHS take the lead with 50 seconds to play.
Sophomore Angela Rodriguez drained a three-pointer for the 37-34 lead and junior Gabe Wesley stole the ball with 15 seconds to go to seal the victory for NHS.
Wesley led all Lady Chiefs in scoring with 10 points. She also grabbed four rebounds and had three steals. Thompson had 9 points, two rebounds and two steals. Junior Melissa Garrett added 5 points, five rebounds and one steal.
Junior Yasmine Odom contributed 4 points and junior Shelbi Wiggins had 2 points.
