Weaver serves others at SAIL center

(This week The Atmore Advance spotlights 57-year-old Charlene Weaver. Weaver enjoys traveling with the Poarch SAIL Center members and has been to many different places, including Nashville, Tenn., Memphis, Tenn. and Cherokee, N.C.)
Q: When and where were you born?
A: I was born at home with a midwife here in Poarch on Jan. 24, 1950.
Q: Have you lived in the Atmore area your entire life?
A: Yes.
Q: Who were your parents?
A: Woodrow and Estelle Rolin.
Q: Where were they from?
A: As far as I know, they lived here their whole lives.
Q: Do you have any brothers or sisters?
A: Six brothers and four sisters. There is Ralph Pearson, Pedrow Rolin, Ardis Rolin, Lee Rolin, Marvin Rolin, Carl Rolin, Joyce Philyaw, Ethel Walker, Eloise Hall and Stella Rutherford.
Q: Where do they all live?
A: Pedrow and Marvin live in Michigan and everyone else lives around here.
Q: Do you do a lot of traveling?
A: I do with the (Poarch SAIL Center) seniors.
Q: Where all have you visited?
A: With the seniors I've been to Nashville, Memphis, Cherokee, N.C. and Oklahoma. The next trip is to Washington State.
I went to my brother Pedrow's in Michican in May.
Q: Out of all the places you've been, what was your favorite?
A: Cherokee, N.C. because it is so pretty and it's surrounded by the mountains and I love the mountains.
Q: Where did you attend high school and college?
A: Escambia County High School. No college.
Q: What jobs have you held?
A: I worked for eight months as a cleaning lady at the main Tribal office and I worked at the Creek Bingo Palace for three years and that's it.
Q: Who is your husband?
A: James "Red" Weaver.
Q: Where is he from?
A: McDavid, Fla.
Q: Do you have any children or grandchildren?
A: Four children; Jeffrey, Frankie, Daniel and Christine. Daniel lives at Stanley Crossroads and Christine lives in Excel. Jeffrey and Frankie live around here.
Q: What about grandchildren?
A: I have 13 grandkids!
Q: Where do you attend church?
A: I don't.
Q: What keeps you busy these days?
A: Helping up here at the SAIL Center and my grandkids.
Q: What do you do at the SAIL Center?
A: Just about anything, but I don't sew.
Q: What's your favorite TV show?
A: "M*A*S*H."
Q: What's your favorite movie?
A: I like so many, but I really like "McLintock!" It's an old John Wayne movie. I watch it every time it comes on TV.
Q: What's your favorite food?
A: I like all kinds of food. But, I guess chicken and dumplings are my favorite.
Q: What advice would like to give people on staying healthy?
A: Eat right, exercise and that's about it.
