Christmas classics to hit the big screen
The Leadership Atmore Class of 2007 is bringing Christmas spirit to the Strand Theatre.
Five Christmas classics will be shown at the Strand during a two-weekend span.
First on the docket is "Miracle on 34th Street" Dec. 9 at 2 p.m.
The Leadership class will also show four classic children's Christmas movies Dec. 15 beginning at 1 p.m. Movies shown will include, "A Charlie Brown Christmas," "Frosty the Snowman," "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and "Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer."

Calvary Temple revival Dec. 3-7
Calvary Deliverance Temple will have revival Dec. 3-7 at 7 p.m. nightly. The Rev. Tony McCullough will be the speaker.
Sacred Heart Bus rides to Davisville
The Sacred Heart Mission in Motion Bus will be at the Davisville Community Center today from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. They will be taking blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol. Flu shots will be offered for seniors.
Evening with Santa slated for tomorrow
Tomorrow from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting an Evening with Santa. The event will be at Atmore Heritage Park, which is located at the corner of Main and Craig streets.
Santa will be on hand to take photos with the many girls and boys of the Atmore area. Peacock Photography will be in charge of the photographs. Prices are one 5X7 and four wallet sized photos for $10 or two 5X7s and eight wallet sized photos for $18.
Poarch Parade scheduled for Dec. 7
The Poarch Christmas Parade will be held Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. It will start at the Tribal Center and end at the Wellness and Activities Center (Gym).
Up on the Rooftop Toy Drive Dec. 8
The Up on the Rooftop Toy Drive will be held Dec. 8 from 9 a.m. until.
DeeDra Kelley and Jennifer Stanley with Kelley's Ambulance will be on the rooftop of Fred's until the ambulance is filled with toys for the children of Atmore.
An application to register to receive toys can be picked up at The Atmore Advance. Applications must be turned in by Dec. 7 at the Advance located at 301 Main Street.
Y holds fundraiser for music classes
Ashley Dawn, owner of Ashley Dawn "A DJ and Performing Company" is hosting a "Kids Karaoke" fundraiser Dec. 8 at the Atmore Area YMCA and Community Center's gym.
The event will begin at 11 a.m. and there will be live music, door prizes and food.
Relay teams hold Chili Cook-off
The Relay for Life teams will have a Chili Cook-off on Dec. 8 at Heritage Park.
It will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
Christmas Parade scheduled for Dec. 8
The Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce's annual Twilight Christmas Parade will be held Dec. 8.
The parade will begin at 5 p.m. at Atmore City Hall. It will proceed down Ridgeley Street and turn on to Main Street and travel south to Lindberg Avenue where it will end at Escambia County High School.
J.F. Shields Alumni to meet Dec. 8
The J.F. Shields/MCTS Alumni Association will meet Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. at The Beatrice Community Center.

Deadline nearing for Toys for Tots
The Concerned Citizens of Atmore's annual Toys for Tots with the U.S. Marine Corps distribution will be held Dec. 21. All needed families must register before Dec. 8. Must be ages 0-14 for qualification. Donations are welcome.

Women in Black slated Dec. 9
The Harris St. A.O.H. Church is having a 100 Women in Black Program at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 9. Women of all ages are welcome.
St. Anna's Advent lessons, carols
Advent lessons and carols will be held at St. Anna's Episcopal Church Poarch Dec. 9 at 9 a.m. Come help St. Anna's congregants sing Advent hymns followed by appropriate scripture readings. Advent, wholly coupled with "the coming of our Savior" is a holy season of the Christian church, a period of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Christ. It is the beginning of the Western Christian Year that commences on Advent Sunday, Dec. 2 and continues for four Sundays until Dec. 23.
Commission meeting scheduled Dec. 10
The Escambia County Commission will conduct a regular session at 9 a.m. on Dec. 10 in the County Commission Chambers, room 201 at the Escambia County Courthouse, Brewton. The administrative workshop will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 7.
Joy Riders meeting slated Dec. 12
The Joy Riders will meet at noon on Dec. 12 in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church. All senior adults are invited to attend. Bring a dish and join the fun.

Temple Academy performs musical
The student body of Temple Christian Academy will present A Certain Small Shepherd, A Christmas musical by Carol McMillen and David Culross, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13 in the auditorium of Atmore Baptist Temple.
When Lori and Kevin have trouble understanding the importance of giving, Grandpa shares with them the story of Josiah, a little shepherd boy, who gave the baby Jesus the first Christmas gift, his own precious lamb. Through the story, Lori and Kevin come to realize what a tremendous gift God gave us that first Christmas in the form of His own Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
The faculty and student body would like to extend a cordial invitation to the public to join us as we celebrate the true meaning of Christmas. The church is located at 1707 S. Main St. across from David's Catfish House.

Tee Ball League holds meeting Dec. 13
The Atmore Tee Ball League will hold a board meeting Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. in the YMCA boardroom. All present board members and anyone who is wishing to be on the new board is asked to be present.

ECHS hosts PTA meeting Dec. 13
There will be a PTA meeting at Escambia County High School on Dec. 13 at 5:30 p.m. There will be refreshments and door prizes. Immediately following at 6 p.m. the band will have their Christmas concert.
Day Gallery holds art viewing, wine tasting
An Art Viewing and Wine Tasting will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Dec. 14 at Day Gallery 106 W. Ridgley St.
Day Gallery Art and Antiques invites the community to enjoy monthly featured artists over a glass of wine.
December Art Walk will highlight cutting edge artist Konstantyn Sylin, master of watercolor. He is a member of the artist's union of Ukraine. Be inspired by his landscape, still life portraits and abstract composition. During the event patrons can enjoy inspiring art, taste the featured wine, listen to music and mingle with other like – minded community members. Also the A.V.A.A. (Atmore Visual Art Association Members) will be showing examples of their work through December and Lee Baines of Brewton will be holding a water color demonstration.
Turtle Point hosts open house Dec. 15
Turtle Point will have a Christmas Open House from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Dec. 15. The gift shop will be open and the children will have the opportunity for crafts.
Southern gospel singing on Dec. 15
There will be a Southern Gospel gathering on Dec. 15 from 6 p.m. until at the Lenox Community Center, featuring Danny Ray Harris with performances by, Southern Gospel Trio, Streets of Gold and other local talent. Refreshments will be served.

Concerned Citizens host Christmas Ball
The Concerned Citizens of Atmore will have their Inaugural Christmas Ball on Dec. 15 at the Atmore YMCA located at 501 S. Pensacola Avenue. It will start at 7:30 p.m. and end at midnight and will cost $15 per person. Tickets can be purchased from CCA members or beauty salon owners. The attire is formal or semi-formal, bring an entree or set your own table, and will feature a hair show extravaganza and live entertainment.
Hands of Praise event slated Dec. 15
Bethany Seventh-day Adventist Church will celebrate the first anniversary of the Hands of Praise Dec. 15 at the church located at 61 Brown St. in Atmore at 5 p.m.
The public is invited to visit the community service center behind the church. They are open on Thursday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The center has clothes for men, women, children and babies. It also has shoes, some stuffed toys and some winter and summer clothes.
Trinity Church holds "Lessons of Carols"
To celebrate the season of Advent, Trinity Episcopal Church will host an evening of "Lessons of Carols" at 7 p.m. on Dec. 18.
Light refreshments will be served afterwards in the Parish Hall. Trinity is located at 202 S. Carney Street behind Bondurant Hardware.
New Pleasant Hill hosts fifth Sunday
Atmore Sunday school at Study next fifth Sunday fellowship at New Pleasant Hill Church with the Rev. Harold Askew as pastor will be held Dec. 30. Sunday school will be at 9:45 a.m. and worship service will be at 11 a.m. All are welcome to attend.
ECHS booster club meeting on Jan. 8
The next Escambia County High School Booster Club meeting will be held on Jan. 8, 2008 at 7 p.m. at David's Catfish.
Atmore Church of God starting clubs
The Atmore Church of God is starting a Boys Club and a Girls Club. Ages will range from 5 years through 16 years of age. They are inviting all boys and girls to join the club and enjoy the activities. American Legion meeting is held the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the American Legion building.
