The employees at Atmore Community Hospital sure know how to get into the Christmas spirit.
Fortunately, I was included in this festive time.
Thursday, ACH human resource manager Linda Lowrey invited me to be one of the judges for the hospital's annual door decorating contest. I did not hesitate accepting the invitation and I am glad I did not. The experience turned out to be a great one that added to my personal holiday glee.
The contest is held each year between all the departments at the hospital. Lowrey said that each year the contest is much anticipated and the employees proved that to be true with all the hard work each of them put forth in decorating the doors.
Each door had its own theme, which was selected by the department. They were all colorful and depicted different aspects of Christmas including greeting cards, cooking and the true reason for the season.
The dietary department won first place gaining bragging rights and earning $75 to be used in the department. Not only do these employees know how to cook some scrumptious food, they sure know how to decorate a door. Their door, which portrayed an oven that opened with gingerbread men inside, was hands down the winner.
Med-surg placed second with their warm and cozy fireplace scene that had tiny lights that represented a fire. It was very detailed and displayed the department's hard work.
Third place went to medical records' door, which illustrated a huge greeting card that played music and was signed by all the department's staff. Talk about clever.
The remaining 12 doors were also very creative and were a joy to judge. In my opinion, each department was a winner. In fact, it was very tough to judge.
To the staff at ACH, thanks for bringing me some additional holiday cheer. I would have never thought doors could be so joyful.
