The Escambia County Blue Devils boys' basketball program will host a basketball tournament Jan. 26 that is open to the public.
The ECHS Pre-Black History Month Basketball Tournament will be a competitive basketball tournament for men and women from Atmore and the surrounding area.
"This tournament will allow us to raise money for our boys' basketball program and art club," head coach Anthony Hayes said. "We know the month of February is Black History Month and we hope to enlighten the youth, their parents and the community about the importance of not only the month, but the heritage of the African-American people."
Hayes said some informative information would be passed out throughout the event. The event will take place in the new gym at ECHS. A $5 entry fee will be charged at the door and Hayes said it should be a fun-filled family event.
There will be concessions available and security will be on duty. The art club will provide face painting and the Expose dance team will provide halftime entertainment.
There will be a maximum of 16 teams with a maximum of 10 players per team. All team info must be turned in to Hayes by Jan. 12, 2008. The entry fee is $100 per team and that is non-refundable.
The tournament will be single elimination and trophies will be awarded to first, second and third place teams.
