From shrimp, snapper, grouper and even frog legs, Outback Seafood Shack has it all delivered on a daily basis fresh from the "seafood capital of Alabama."
Outback Seafood Shack, located at 202 West Howard St. in Atmore, held its grand opening Friday and employee Kelly Roberts said she is pleased with the inhabitants of the city.
"We are all from the Bayou La Batre, Grand Bay area," Roberts said. "There is really nothing up here so we thought this would be a good area for this. So far everybody seems nice."
All the seafood at Outback Seafood Shack comes directly from Bayou La Batre, Roberts said.
Roberts, owner Christopher LaForce and employee Alissa Brannon plan to make the drive from Bayou La Batre to Atmore each Wednesday through Sunday and the Shack will be open from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Brannon said Friday morning was a little hectic, that there were more people to visit the new facility than she anticipated.
"We haven't stopped at all since 10 a.m.," Brannon said around noon on Friday. "When we opened at 10 we had a line waiting."
LaForce said he hopes to have some seafood specials at various times and that the cost of crawfish should go down within the next few weeks.
"This is just the opening of the crawfish season," he said. "Within the next week or so the prices should go down."
Some of the items on the menu at Outback Seafood Shack include fresh shrimp, oysters, crab meat, snapper, flounder, grouper, mullet, scallops, soft shell crab, crawfish and frog legs. The establishment also carries gourmet items such as stuffed crab, jalapeno peppers stuffed with crab, snow crab, mushroom stuffed with crab and crab cakes.
Also, Atmore residents can stop by Outback Seafood Shack if they are short on time and pick up a boiled crawfish or boiled shrimp plate with corn and new potatoes for $7.99.
Roberts said the hours and what type of seafoods they have an abundance of may vary according to the requests of Atmore area residents.
"Right now we're just getting on our feet and trying to see what happens," Roberts said.
