Chris Vanree passed away after crashing an ultralight in a field near the McCullough crossroads Sunday afternoon.
Vanree, a 21-year-old white male from the Atmore area, was transported by LifeFlight to Baptist Hospital after the accident. According to a hospital employee, Vanree died while in the emergency room Sunday night.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Vanree’s death.
According to the department, witnesses of the accident saw the aircraft circling the area until it crashed in the open field.
The accident is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration.
