Senator Shelby in Atmore Feb. 2
U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) will visit Escambia County residents Feb. 2 at 7:30 a.m. at Annie’s Community Cup, located at 125 N. Main St. in Atmore.
Shelby will discuss the legislative agenda for the second session of 110th Congress as well as important issues facing the nation and the state of Alabama. He will then answer questions from the audience.
The meeting is open to the public.
Genealogy seminar in Monroeville Feb. 2
The Monroe County Heritage Museums will host the seventh annual genealogy seminar featuring Elizabeth Wells, the special collections librarian at Samford University.
Topics will include preservation of church records, learning other sources that contain church data and the importance of church records for the organization and the researcher.
The seminar will be held at the Old Courthouse Museum Feb. 2. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the program is from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Admission is $20 per person.

Gospel Light hosts singing Feb. 2
You are invited to enjoy an evening of beautiful, inspiring music and singing at Gospel Light Church at Howard &N. Trammell St. on Feb. 2 at 6:30 p.m. featuring the Glick Family Singers from Massillon, Ohio. They tour the country singing in prisons and rest homes. Come from an evening of blessings.
Extension office hosts shortcourse
The Santa Rosa County Extension Office will host a four-part Fish Pond Management Shortcourse beginning Feb. 4, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Jay Community Center, 5259 Booker Lane, Jay, Fl. The program consists of three lectures held via video-conference from the University of Florida and a local pond management field tour.
The first class, pond management, covers fertilizing, winterizing ponds, fixing leaky ponds, pond construction, fertilizer types and pond clarity. The second class, fish management (March 3) covers fish selection, removing unwanted species, feeding techniques, stocking strategies, removal of fish, feed sources and recreational harvest recommendations. The third class, weed management (April 7) covers desirable plants, weed identification and removal, herbicides, and application techniques and equipment. The final session (April 14) is a field tour of a local fingerling hatchery with pond management practices and equipment displays.
Registration is $40 per person and $10 for each additional person if received by Jan. 28, or $50 if paid the first night of the session. Registrants will receive a course notebook of fact sheets about pond management as well as handouts from the instructors.

Trinity hosts pancake supper on Feb. 5
Trinity Episcopal Church will sponsor a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper Feb. 5 at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome. The cost is $3 per person. The supper will be held in the parish hall next to the church.
Beth Moore study slated Feb. 5-6
The First Presbyterian Church invites the community to participate in Beth Moore’s newest Bible study, Stepping Up: A Journey Through the Psalms of Ascent to be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Atmore, beginning Feb. 5 at 9:30 a.m. and Feb. 6 at 3:30 p.m. Childcare will be provided for the Tuesday morning sessions only. The seven-week study includes an introductory session and six weekly group sessions. The group will meet weekly to discuss the assignments and view Moore’s video lectures.

Primary election will be held Feb. 5
Escambia County will hold a Presidential Primary Election Feb. 5 for the purpose of determining who will represent the Republican and Democratic Party in the General Election in November. This election will be held at the regular polling places and the voting hours will be 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
FNB selling tickets to Glamour Magic
First National Bank &Trust is selling tickets to Glamour Magic. The photo sessions will be held Feb. 6-9 at First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Tickets are $9.95 each for the session and an 8X10 photo. Hair and makeup are provided. Glamour Magic will call for session times.

Symposium slated Feb. 7 in Brewton
From Folk Rock to Americana and all the genres in between, the Songwriters’ Symposium provides the individual(s) the opportunity to showcase songwriting and musical abilities. The Songwriters’ Symposium is held the first Thursday of each month and features various regional artists. Tickets are $10 at the door; gourmet munchies and drinks are also included with ticket purchase. Band Merchandise and music will be for sale and ready to be autographed! Chuck Wagon Gang presents free concert
The Chuck Wagon Gang gospel singing group will present a free concert to benefit the Monroeville based non-profit organization, Pilots for Christ, Inc., Feb. 8 at Nettles Auditorium in Monroeville.
Cinderella auditions nearing at JDCC
The Brewton Council of the Arts and Missoula Children's Theatre are presenting Cinderella Feb. 9, 7 p.m. at the JDCC auditorium. Auditions will be held Feb. 4 at 3:30 p.m. at JDCC and are open to students in grades K-12.
Approximately 50 children will be cast for roles in the production.
Canoe church hosts revival Feb. 10-13
William Blackburn, a home grown Atmore native, National Evangelist presently from Fort Smith Arkansas. Gospel music nightly furnished by many local groups and coordinated by Billy Peacock from Pensacola Fla. from Feb. 10-13 at Canoe Baptist Church 11 a.m. Sunday, 5:30 p.m. Sunday night and 6:30 p.m. Monday-Wednesday. There will be a covered dish luncheon Feb. 10.

Young Life hosts public banquet

It’s BBUG time again at Turtle Point. Turtle Point is inviting parents and guardians of kindergarten through fifth grade students to submit an application for the free BBUG (Building Backyard Urban Greenspaces) Program.

Atmore T-Ball League holds registration
The Atmore T-Ball League will hold registration from Jan. 26 until March 1 at the Atmore Area YMCA &Community Center. Registration will be held Monday through Friday from 8 am until 5 pm and Saturdays from 8 am until noon. Cost for each child ages 5-7 is $30.
NWE Little League holds registration

Continuing Education Classes at JDCC
Continuing Education Classes in Upholstery Basics are being offered at Jefferson Davis Community College.
Skills of identifying and using basic upholstery tools and operating an upholstery sewing machine are available.
