Chamber banquet tomorrow evening
Tomorrow is the annual Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce Banquet. The VOICES of Mobile, one of the 19 groups from the University of Mobile's Center for Performing Arts, will be the musical entertainment for the evening.
The new Chamber president will be officially recognized and the Citizen of the Year Award recipient will be announced.

Library board to meet this morning
The Atmore Public Library's next board meeting will be held today at 7 a.m. in the library.
Cancer support group to meet today
The Cancer Support Group, which is open to all cancer survivors and caregivers, will meet Feb. 6 at noon in the Education Center of the D.W. McMillan Hospital. Lunch is provided from the hospital dining room. The program will be "Heart Disease" presented by Dr. Jimmy Adkisson. This group regularly meets on the first Wednesday of each month. Turtle Point hosts BBUG program
It's BBUG time again at Turtle Point. Turtle Point is inviting parents and guardians of kindergarten through fifth grade students to submit an application for the free BBUG (Building Backyard Urban Greenspaces) Program.
If you would like an application emailed to you, please send an email to turtlepoint@escambiak12.net with "BBUG" in the subject line. Call (251) 296-3401 to get an application by mail or to pick one up. Space is limited. We will be accepting applications for the BBUG Program through Feb. 8.
Symposium slated tomorrow in Brewton
From Folk Rock to Americana and all the genres in between, the Songwriters' Symposium provides the individual(s) the opportunity to showcase songwriting and musical abilities. The Songwriters' Symposium is held the first Thursday of each month and features various regional artists. Tickets are $10 at the door; gourmet munchies and drinks are also included with ticket purchase. Band Merchandise and music will be for sale and ready to be autographed! Doors open at 5 p.m. on Feb. 7 at The Hourglass in downtown Brewton.

NWE Little League holds registration
Northwest Escambia Little League baseball and softball and N.W.E. Little League baseball and softball registration will be held Feb. 9 and 16 from 10 a.m. until noon. Please bring a copy of child's birth certificate to registration.

FNB selling tickets to Glamour Magic
First National Bank &Trust is selling tickets to Glamour Magic. The photo sessions will be held Feb. 6-9 at First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Tickets are $9.95 each for the session and an 8X10 photo. Hair and makeup are provided. Glamour Magic will call for session times.

Chuck Wagon Gang presents free concert
The Chuck Wagon Gang gospel singing group will present a free concert to benefit the Monroeville based non-profit organization, Pilots for Christ, Inc., Feb. 8 at Nettles Auditorium in Monroeville.
Cinderella auditions nearing at JDCC
The Brewton Council of the Arts and Missoula Children's Theatre are presenting Cinderella Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. at the JDCC auditorium. Auditions will be held Feb. 4 at 3:30 p.m. at JDCC and are open to students in grades K-12.
Approximately 50 children will be cast for roles in the production.
Canoe church hosts revival Feb. 10-13
William Blackburn, a homegrown Atmore native and national evangelist, presently residing in Fort Smith, Ark., will be the guest speaker. Gospel music will be furnished nightly by many local groups and is coordinated by Billy Peacock from Pensacola Fla. The revival is from Feb. 10-13 at Canoe Baptist Church at 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Sunday and 6:30 p.m. on Monday-Wednesday. There will be a covered dish luncheon on Feb. 10.

County Commission to meet Feb. 11
Please take notice that the Escambia County Commission will conduct a regular session on Feb. 11 at 9 a.m. in the County Commission Chambers Room 201, at the Escambia County Courthouse in Brewton. The Administrative Workshop will be held on Feb. 7 at 8:30 a.m.
Young Life hosts annual banquet
A special invitation is extended to the community who have already purchased their tickets to attend the Atmore Young Life Fund Raising Banquet on Feb. 18 at 6 p.m. at the Atmore Community Center (YMCA). A catered dinner will be provided at no cost.
Monthly support group to meet Feb. 13
Do you or someone you know have lupus? Join for a lupus support group meeting on the second Wednesday of every month at D.W. McMillian Memorial Hospital at 11 a.m.
There is no fee to attend the meeting but the knowledge you will receive is priceless.
These support groups are sponsored and conducted by Lupus Support Network. The network provides education, support and assistance to those affected by Lupus.
Printed materials are available at the meetings on lupus and other autoimmune diseases including Fibromyalgia, Scheroderma, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Sjogrens Syndrome just to name a few. Currently, Lupus Support Network has over 50 brochures on the various aspects of the disease. All are offered free of charge.

Grant applications due Feb. 29
Each year Atmore's Omega Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International makes available a $150 grant-in-aid to a deserving female graduating high school who plans to enter the teaching profession, or a female college student currently enrolled in a college's school of education.
Interested applicants are asked to submit an essay titled "Why I Want to Go Into the Education Field" along with their name, parent's name, address and phone number to:

Deadline for submitting the application papers is Feb. 29.
Atmore T-Ball League holds registration
The Atmore T-Ball League will hold registration from until March 1 at the Atmore Area YMCA &Community Center. Registration will be held Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. until noon. Cost for each child ages 5-7 is $30.
Walnut Hill softball clinic slated March 1
Girls ages 12 and under Softball Pitching Clinic will be held at NWE Ballpark in Walnut Hill, Fla. March 1 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Pre-register Feb. 9, 16 and 23 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. or March 1 from 8 a.m. until 9 a.m. at the park. The cost will be $20 per person due on the day of registration.

The Atmore Lions Club meets the first and third Wednesday for lunch each month at the Atmore Community Hospital. All interested in joining the club are welcome to attend.

Friday Night Dances at the VFW, cost $5
Friday Night Dances at the VFW are open to the general public for a donation of $5 per participant. Country and soft rock music for dancing is provided by the VFW's Freedom Band. If you like good, clean, safe fun, the VFW Post located at 206 W. Ashley Street is the place to be on Friday nights from 7:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.
"Pot luck" finger food and suppers are scheduled occasionally in conjunction with the dances to add to the merriment. Remember the VFW Post in Atmore is the place to be on Friday nights.

Continuing Education Classes at JDCC
Continuing Education Classes in Upholstery Basics are being offered at Jefferson Davis Community College.
Skills of identifying and using basic upholstery tools and operating an upholstery sewing machine are available.
The start date is Feb. 19 and the end date is March 11. Times are Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Atmore JDCC campus.
