Smith makes Advance shine
Tray Smith, the Advance's political columnist, has certainly proven that a 17-year-old Escambia County High School student can hang with the big dogs in Washington, D.C.
Smith recently came back from a semester in D.C., where he was working as a House page. He was recommended by Congressman Jo Bonner to take the semester off from ECHS in order to live out his dreams at the Capitol.
Smith had the opportunity to meet many political figures while in D.C., which is something most of us in Atmore will never have the chance to do.
Rotarians heard Smith speak about his experiences in D.C. as a House page at their weekly meeting yesterday. Smith pumped the Rotary members full of knowledge about the page program and the presidential primaries, which were held yesterday. But, Smith also kept them laughing with political jokes.
We are very proud about Smith's accomplishments in his 17 years of living. It is an honor by itself to be recommended by a member of Congress for the page program. But living out his dreams on Capitol Hill for a semester is an honor he will remember every day for the rest of his life.
We have high hopes for our very own Tray Smith. We know he will go very far in life and hopefully all his political aspirations will come true.
