Diabetes is one of the leading causes of death in the state of Alabama and Atmore Vision Center is teaching area residents how to fight this deadly disease.
The Atmore Vision Center located at 166 Lindberg Avenue will host a Diabetes Health Fair Thursday from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The event will have a multitude of information about how diabetes affects vision and the body overall.
According to Helton, if the eyes are damaged because of diabetes, there is good indication that other organs are also in harms way. Diabetes is a disease that affects blood vessels, particularly smaller blood vessels that carry blood to smaller organs.
Helton said Atmore Vision Center chose to host a Diabetes Health Fair because area residents may not be familiar with the deadly disease.
Helton will be at the fair giving information on how “diabetes and eye car: maintaining healthy vision.” Dr. I. Harrison Moore with the Moore Clinic for Wholeness in Health P.A. will provide information about “alternative medicine: natural treatment options for diabetics.” Louise Brogden, R.D., L.D. is a consultant dietitian in private practice who will give information on “diabetes and healthy eating: portion control and hidden fats, sugar and salt.”
There will also be complimentary services at the fair including:
There is no charge for the health fair, but those interested in attending should register by calling 368-8767 by Tuesday.
