Escambia County High School students may undergo more stress than usual within the next few days as they are taking the Alabama High School Graduation Exam.
ECHS counselor Minnie Stallworth said the exam will be held Feb. 29-March 7 and that it is important for parents to be a strong source of encouragement for their children throughout the week.
The tests will begin Friday morning at 8 a.m. and students have all day to complete the test.
On Friday students will take the social studies portion of the Graduation Exam. All 10th graders will take this portion and any upper classmen that have not passed will also take it.
On March 3, students will take the science portion of the exam. This part of the test will be taken by repeating 10th graders who have previously taken and who have not passed the exam or any upper classmen who has not passed it.
On March 4, students will take the math portion of the test. The 10th graders who have taken the test before and did not pass it, along with upper classmen who have not passed, will take this portion.
Reading will be administered on March 5 to all 10th graders and any upper classmen who have not passed this portion.
March 6 is dedicated to the language portion of the exam and all 10th graders and upper classmen who haven’t passed will take this part.
The final day of tests is March 7. On this day all 10th and 11th graders will take the biology part of the exam.
Stallworth said students prepare for the exam with their regular class work.
A student must pass the Graduation Exam in order to graduate from high school, but they have multiple opportunities to retake the test.
