ATMORE - Mr. Daniel Williams, 73, of Atmore died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2008 at Christian Memorial Funeral Chapel.

James J. “Jack” Josey Sr.
ATMORE - James J. “Jack” Josey Sr., 86, died March 4, 2008 in Atmore, born May 9, 1921 to Thomas Horner and Elizabeth Shaw Josey in Lee County, S.C.
His brothers, Fred Josey and Keith Josey; sisters, Ruby Gardner, Margie Beattie and Mary Elizabeth Taylor and one grandson, Lawrence Russell Bryson, preceded him in death.
Survivors include, his wife of 66 years, Mary Lee Roscoe Josey; son, James J. (Jack) Josey and wife Mary of Hartsville, S.C.; daughter, Susan Smith and husband Clint of Atmore; grandsons, Shaw Brayson Sr. of Camden, S.C., Mike Josey of Charlotte, N.C.; granddaughter, Leslie Bryson of Van Lear, Ky.; great grandsons, Jamie Josey of Williston, S.C., Shaw Brayson Sr. of Lumberton, N.C. and Jackson Bryson of Van Lear, Ky. and great great granddaughter, Natalie Bryson of Lumberton, N.C.
He serviced in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Salamonie AO-26 during WWII as BMLE, member of St. Matthew UMC, Charter member of St. Matthew UM Men’s Bishopville, S.C., member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. and life member of the Lucknow Masonic Lodge #212.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2008 at St. Matthew UMC in Bishopville, S.C. conducted by the Rev. Dewey Dean and the Rev. Ricky Howell. Private burial will be held at the Turkey Creek cemetery, Turkey Creek.
The family request memorials are made to the Turkey Creek Cemetery Trust, P.O. Box 215, Bethune, S.C. 29009 in lieu of flowers.

LaGuanda Shannette Benjamin
ATMORE - Mrs. LaGuanda Shannette Benjamin, 32, of Pensacola, Fla. died Friday, Feb. 29, 2008 at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. She was a 1992 graduate of Escambia County High School in Atmore and had attended Reid State in Evergreen and she was a beautician. She was a member of the Jones Street Holiness Church in Atmore where she served on the usher board, sang in the Willie L. Williams Inspirational Choir and the Gospel Chorus.
Her daughter, LaGuanda S. Payne, preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories, her mother, Eartha (Carl) Andrews of Atmore and her father, Eddie (Betty) Ballard of Ga.; one sister, Corinthian Littles of Jacksonville Fla.; five brothers, Victor (Demetrie) Payne of Mobile, Christopher Andrews of Atmore, Eddie Ballard Jr., Javon Ballard of Jacksonville, Fla. and Torray Andrews of Mobile and grandparents, Rosie M. Harrison of Atmore and Rosa M. Ballard of Atmore.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2008 at Jones Street Holiness Church in Atmore with Bishop Willie L. Williams officiating. Inhumation will follow in Stallworth cemetery in Atmore.
Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC of Atmore will be directing the services.
SSG Macy Shepard
ATMORE - SSG Macy Shepard USAF RET, 80, of Atmore and a native of Maple Hill, N.C. died Sunday, March 2, 2008 at the VA Hospital in Birmingham. He retired as a SGT from the US Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War and was a retired postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service. His parents, Bryant H. Shepard and Joy Shepard preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories, his wife, Mildred Shepard of Atmore; two daughters, Loretta (James) Smith of Monassi, Va. and Sandra (Gary) Hill of Pensacola, Fla.; three sons, Gerald (Dana) Shepard of Birmingham, Rodney (Jessica) Shepard of Winston Salem, N.C. and Archie L. Jackson of Atmore; one sister, Vallie Jacobs of Lawnside, N.J., Bryant (Pearl) Shepard of Maple Hill, S.C.; 12 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist church with the Rev. Willie Hawthorne officiating. Inhumation will follow in the Shepard Family cemetery in Maple Hill, N.C.

Robert Bertchum Atwell
CANTONMENT, Fla. - Robert Bertchum Atwell, 55, of Cantonment, Fla. died Saturday, March 1, 2008 in Gulf Breeze, Fla. of complications from a stroke. He was a hard worker, very meticulous and passionate in the field of construction, born on June 27, 1952 at Eglin Air Force Base, Eglin, Fla. to John and Thelma F. Mitchell Atwell. He loved his family and fishing very much, and now is at rest in Heaven with his mother, Thelma Gilmore and his brother, Ronnie Milstead.
Survivors include, one loving sister, Debby Hopkins; three sons, Christopher Jude Atwell, Eric Jason Atwell and Robert Bertchum Atwell Jr. of Pensacola, Fla.; one daughter, Summer Dee of Pensacola, Fla., numerous nieces and nephews, a very special cousin, Terry Parker and a special friend, Patty Wright.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2008 from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Dale Patterson officiating. Interment followed in Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church cemetery. Family received friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2008 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were, Kevin Thompson, Wayne Roberson, Danny Stout, Doug Hopkins, David Bergquist and Tommy Mitchell.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Sally, Valerie, Paula and Betty of Emerald Coast Hospice. The family would also like to thank Danny of Bay Breeze Nursing Facility for his compassion for Bobby during his final hours. May God Bless all that have helped with Bobby in his final days on earth.

Bryant Hayles
SARALAND - Mr. Bryant Hayles, 86, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2008 in Saraland.
Mr. Hayles was a native and lifelong resident of Eliska, a retired employee from Mobile Gas Company after 25 years of service and had attended the Eliska Holiness Church.
Survivors include, his son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Dayle Hayles of Saraland; his daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Pat Herring of Mobile; four grandchildren, Robert Bryant “L.B.” Hayles of Atmore, Brandy Speicher of Saraland, Codie Howell of Mobile and Danielle Herring of Mobile; a great grandson, Canyon Hayles, and seven other great grandchildren; two sisters, Annie Jaye of Eliska and Alice Tuberville of Eight Mile and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008 at the Mt. Pleasant Church with the Rev. Angelo Thomley officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until funeral time at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Leo Weaver, James Weaver, Brandon Weaver, Howard Hilburn, Devan Ward and Corey Phillips.

Mazie Lee Lowrey Massey
CENTURY, Fla. - Mrs. Mazie Lee Lowrey Massey, 85, returned to her eternal family on Monday, March 3, 2008.
Mrs. Massey was born in Canoe on April 7, 1922 to the late Charlie and Mary Lowrey and was a resident of Century, Fla. She was a devoted wife and mother who served family, friends and strangers by word and unselfish acts and had been a member of the Century First Baptist Church. Her husband of 47 years, Joseph Walter Massey Sr. preceded her in death.
Survivors include, her son, Joseph Walter Massey Jr. of Century, Fla.; three daughters, Donna (Frank) Jackson of Milton, Fla., Linda (Harvey) Kelley of Century, Fla. and Elizabeth (Eric) Honour of Cantonment, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; three brothers, Russell Lowrey of Molino, Fla., Charlie Lowrey of Cantonment, Fla. and J.W. Lowrey of Flomaton; her sister, Delia “Dot” Croley of Century, Fla. and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 5, 2008 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Keese and the Rev. Fred Stallworth officiating. Burial will follow at Flomaton cemetery. Visitation was held from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Clifton (Sporty) Lowrey, Harvey Kelley II, Nathan Simmons, Ricky Croley, Wayne Johnson and Ray Hammond.
Emma Daniels
ATMORE - Mother Emma Daniels, 93, of Atmore and a native of Evergreen died Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Atmore Community Hospital. She had attended school in the Conecuh County School System. She was a member of Pillar Ground and Truth Holiness Church in Atmore and was the mother of the church. She was a domestic homemaker.
Her parents, John Hines and Evelyn Hines, and her husband, Edmond Daniels, preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories, one daughter, Dorothy (Richard) Johnson of Atmore; three sons, Clausell Hines, George (Erma) Moore and Charles Daniels of Atmore and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Pillar Ground and Truth Holiness Church in Atmore with Elder Archie McDougall officiating. Inhumation will follow in the Fairview cemetery in Atmore.
