Lady Chiefs squeak by

Two doubles were key in the Northview Lady Chiefs' 1-0 victory over the West Florida Tech Lady Jaguars Thursday evening in Pensacola, Fla.
Freshman Miranda Burkett laced a double in the top of the fourth inning and freshman first baseman Hayley Simpson lined a double of her own, scoring Burkett for the only run of the game.
Sophomore pitcher Amber McMillan (4-3) threw a complete game for the win, allowing no runs on four hits. She struck out two batters and walked one.
The Lady Chiefs (4-6, 1-2 FHSAA Class 3A, District 1) had four players with one hit and Simpson led the team with two hits. She was 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Burkett was 1-for-3 with one double and one run scored.
Sophomore outfielder Aimee Clarke was 1-for-3 and sophomore third baseman Candice Greenwell was 1-for-4.

The Lady Chiefs broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the sixth inning with one run, only to see Catholic score three runs in the bottom of the inning to seal a 5-3 victory March 4 in Pensacola.
McMillan took the loss on the mound, allowing five runs, two earned, on five hits. She struck out three and walked two.
Greenwell went 2-for-4 at the plate and senior left fielder Olivia Godwin was 1-for-3.
