Band preps for Senior Bowl
As the Escambia County High School band prepares to go to the Sugar Bowl in January of 2009, they will be conducting fundraisers on a regular basis.
These funds that are deposited in band members’ Sugar Bowl band accounts are for that purpose only. They are not to be used for anything else, according to the school’s band director Dennis Reed.
The funds are not meant for the students in any aspect other than to defray the expenses incurred during the trip they have planned.
And if for any reason a band member decides not to or is prohibited from going to the Sugar Bowl, any funds in his or her account will be distributed evenly among those students that are still planning and working toward the trip.
The Advance staff thinks it is great that ECHS band members are going to work hard to get funds together in order to enjoy a trip to the Senior Bowl, instead of expecting a trip to be handed to them.
This gives students a sense of accomplishment after the funds are raised, gives them something to look forward to and teaches them money management skills.
So, if you see the ECHS band out and about trying to raise money, remember the funds are going to a good cause and will not be spend on frivolous activities!
It’s time to support area schools!
