The American Legion Post 90 Ladies Auxiliary hosted a Teacher of the Year banquet Monday night to honor area educators who have gone above and beyond the call of duty at the workplace.
Area teachers honored included Escambia County High School’s Andrea Chance, Escambia County Middle School’s Janice Kidd, Rachel Patterson Elementary School’s Leigh Ann Rowland, A.C. Moore Elementary School’s Charlene Ray, Northview High School’s Natalie Nall and Ernest Ward Middle School’s Cynthia Wilson. Also Flomaton High School’s Jarrod Green, Flomaton Elementary/Middle School’s Frankie Samuel and J.U. Blacksher School’s Annette West were in attendance.
Auxiliary president Mary Stanley said the Legion hosts this event each year because young people are the nation’s future and it is important to invest in that future.
Escambia County Board of Education superintendent Billy Hines said the Teacher of the Year event is something he enjoys each year.
