If you cook it, they will come.
And if you add high-octane horsepower to the mix, they will surely come.
That was the thinking behind L.A. Biker members PeeWee Powell and Jim Staff’s idea for hosting a benefit dinner last Saturday evening with some NASCAR flavor.
Powell and Staff hosted the dinner at their shop located on East Avenue off Hwy. 31 West in Atmore. The duo, along with numerous volunteers, whipped up some fish, chicken and barbecue plates for donations and had the No. 8 Mark Martin U.S. Army Chevrolet on hand to help draw a crowd.
Despite the rain, Staff said several hundred people visited and purchased plates.
Proceeds from the dinner sales will benefit the L.A. Bikers’ annual Christmas Toy Drive for needy families in Atmore and surrounding areas.
Resse Garvin, a former Atmore resident and business owner, allowed Powell and Staff to feature the No. 8 car at the event on his way through Atmore to Texas Motor Speedway. Garvin works for Dale Earnhardt Incorporated (DEI) and takes the car to NASCAR tracks across the country for various public appearances.
