NAACP to meet Tuesday in park
An NAACP meeting will be held at 7 p.m. April 8, 2008 at the PCRC building at Houston Avery Park.
Poarch to hold Career Day April 8
The Poarch Band of Creek Indians Education Department is extending an invitation to the community to attend a College Fair &Career Day scheduled for April 8 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. in the Family Services Auditorium.

Bonner staffer will visit Atmore April 9
A staff member from the office of U.S. Representative Jo Bonner (R-AL) will be making two stops in Escambia County on April 9.
The representative will be available at Atmore City Hall between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and at Brewton City Hall between 11 a.m. and noon.
Faith Church to hold revival April 9-11
Faith Church of God in Christ, located at 204 Robinson Drive in Atmore will hold revival from April 9-11 at 7 p.m. nightly. The speaker will be Evangelist Harris from Mobile.
NHS to hold Renaissance Fair
Northview High School will host The Renaissance Fair on April 12, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the school, located at 4100 W Hwy. 4, Bratt, Fla.
Northview’s senior class will perform Shakespeare’s play Taming of the Shrew twice, at 2 p.m. and at 5:30 p.m. The fair will be full of thrilling activities for all ages: face painting, costume contest, sack races, obstacle course, jousting at the dreaded Barbarian pit, perhaps a trip to the daunting gallows and other activities. Turkey legs and other scrumptious foods and drinks will be available. $5 adult's admissions fee ($2 K-fifth grade; preschool is free).

Barnes Boys event slated for April 12
The annual gathering of the Barnes Boys will take place at David's Catfish House at noon on April 12. The former football players of Coach Herb Barnes and former ECHS cheerleaders and students meet in Atmore every year to honor the memory of their 1940s era coach, share a meal and enjoy each other’s company.

YMCA to host Healthy Kids Day
Kids and families from Atmore and the surrounding area are urged to “Put Play in Your Day” at YMCA Healthy Kids Day on April 12 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Atmore Area YMCA. New Life Fellowship hosts April revival
New Life Fellowship Assembly of God in Walnut Hill, Fla. will be holding revival April 13-18. Revival begins at 5 p.m. on April 13 and 7 p.m. every other night. Bro. David Tolbert will be the guest speaker. Everyone is welcome to join the congregation and worship.
Mt. Gilead church to celebrate 89 years
Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church invites everyone to join with them in celebrating the church’s 89th anniversary on April 13 at 3 p.m. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Stanley Stallworth of Saint Luke Baptist Church in Evergreen.
Zion Star Church hosts special service
The pastor and members of Zion Star A.M.E. Zion Church, cordially invite you to come and worship the Lord with them in their “Dedication of Church Essentials Service,” April 13 at 3:30 p.m.
The pastor is the Rev. Humphrey Shuford and the speaker will be the Rev. Claude Shuford from Montgomery.
YMCA Wee-Ball begins April 14
The Atmore Area YMCA 3 to 5 year old Wee-Ball T-Ball season begins April 14. Registration is being taken at the YMCA, 501 S. Pensacola Ave in the office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The last day to register will be Healthy Kids Day, April 12, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Registration is $35 per child for members with discounts for additional children in the family and $55 for non-members. Mims reception slated for April 15
The Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce and its 2008 corporate partner, FNB&Trust, are hosting a reception in honor of outgoing executive director, Emilie Mims. The reception will be held April 15 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the main branch of FNB&Trust. This reception will be an opportunity to thank Mims for her 17 years as executive director of the Chamber and to recognize the efforts and progress during her tenure. The community is invited to attend to share in this recognition.
Poarch Relay ‘Walks Across Atmore’
The Poarch Band of Creek Indians’ Relay for Life team will host a “Walk Across Atmore” April 19 beginning at 9 a.m.

Bike show, ride slated for April 19
Children’s Miracle Network Bike Show and Ride will be held at the Brewton WalMart on April 19. Show starts at 10 a.m. and the ride begins at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $15 for driver, $10 for rider (includes hot dog, chips and drink). All proceeds go to Children’s Miracle Network.
Bay Springs hosts homecoming April 20
Bay Springs Full Gospel Church will have Homecoming April 20. Singing begins at 10 a.m. with Restoration and the Muscogee Boys. The message will begin at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Cornelius Phillips. Lunch will follow after the message and there will be singing in the afternoon. Bro. Lollie and congregation welcome everyone.
The Poarch Band of Creek Indians’ Relay for Life team will hold a “Mystery Dinner” April 22 at 6 p.m. in the Family Services Auditorium. Tickets for the event cost $10. Entertainment is being planned. See any team member of Thelma at the front desk for tickets.
Huxford to hold registration April 23
Huxford Elementary School will hold Kindergarten registration on April 23 from 8 a.m. until noon. Parents must bring birth certificate, social security card, blue immunization record and proof of residency. Please bring your child with you for testing. Children must be 5-years-old on, or before, Sept. 2.
Masters Men Quartet to sing April 26
Bethel United Methodist Church, located on Hwy. 21 will host The Masters Men Quartet, In Gospel concert, April 26 from 4 p.m. until 7p.m. There will be a free "rice and chicken dinner" for everyone.

Relay for Life slated for April 26 at ECHS
Atmore’s Relay for Life will be held April 26. The theme for this year’s event is “cancer has no borders” and will be held at Escambia County High School.

Annual Mayfest scheduled for May 3
Atmore’s Mayfest will be held May 3 at Tom Byrne Park. There will be a variety of events for everyone at Mayfest.

Hospital Auxiliary offers scholarships
The Hospital Auxiliary is offering two scholarships this year. The scholarships are offered to anyone interested in working in any medical field. Those interested can be just finishing high school, already working in a medical field and wanting to further their education or just planning on going to school. Applications are available in all area high school counseling offices and the gift shop at Atmore Community Hospital. Applications need to be turned in to the gift shop at the hospital by May 9.
First Assembly hosts health, wellness fair
Atmore First Assembly of God Church will host Women’s Sensational Saturday on May 10 from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
The event will include: free fasting blood sugar and cholesterol testing. You will need to fast after midnight for these tests. Food will be provided after fasting tests. Free nutritional assessment and immunization screening, free blood pressure evaluation, free informative and inspirational educational sessions, free breakout sessions for women of all ages and many exhibitors and many door prizes

Trinity Episcopal Church hosts fun day
Trinity Episcopal Church will be holding a fun-filled day of events, including an antique appraisal, silent auction and a boxed lunch sale on May 10 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit Trinity's extensive Outreach Program. The big day is being conducted with a lot of help from First National Bank and Trust and also Masland Carpets, the Poarch Band of Creek Indians Endowment Committee and Swift's Supply.
Historical Society to meet May 19
The next meeting of the Atmore Historical Society is May 19 at 6 p.m. in the Peavy-Webb Building in Heritage Park. President Byard Swift invites everyone to attend. Program to be announced.
