For the second year, one area resident will be the lucky winner of the Young Life Golf Ball Drop, slated for May 3.
"The Golf Ball Drop is a fundraiser that has been performed by other Young Life programs throughout the U.S.," board member Robert McGhee said. "The drop will occur the afternoon of Mayfest, tentatively scheduled for 5 p.m."
Young Life is a non-denominational organization that reaches out to kids, specifically high school students, across the United States. The organization helps to facilitate a relationship with Jesus Christ, according to McGhee.
"Every year we host a fundraiser to send these kids to a weeklong camp that has been called by most as 'the best week of their lives'," McGhee said.
Money raised during the Golf Ball Drop will go towards sending Young Life kids to the camp.
Golf balls can be purchased for a $100 donation to Young Life for a prize claim of $5,000. Only 100 numbered balls will be sold this year. The 100 golf balls will be dropped from a helicopter to determine the winner, who does not have to be present at the ball-dropping event.
