State Representative Alan Baker showed area principals an act of generosity Friday morning as he presented each one a check for $2,000 for their schools as a part of the Legislative Community Service Grant.
Rachel Patterson Elementary School, A.C. Moore Elementary School, Escambia County Middle School and Escambia County High School principals were each presented a monetary donation that will help improve their schools.
A letter written to members of the Alabama Legislature from state treasurer Kay Ivey, states what the monies gained from the grant can be used for.
Ivey says the money must strictly be used for public education.
Baker also awarded the Atmore Public Library a check for $3,000 on March 28 as a part of the Community Service Grant. Library director Cathy McKinley accepted the check and said the funds will be used in the children’s department of the library to purchase accelerated reader books and to go towards the “Fun-Tastic Center.”
