Northview High School’s English department hosted The Renaissance Faire Saturday afternoon where guests were invited to partake in many activities, as well as be entertained with music and a play.
NHS English teacher Terri Jernigan said The Renaissance Faire turned out to be a fun event.
Jernigan said the attendance at the faire was not as good as expected because of the lousy weather and it was also the opening of ball day.
Despite the small crowd, Jernigan hopes to get the community excited about the event and that it will become annual.
The English department chose to host The Renaissance Faire because of funding.
The state of Florida’s budget is declining and the English department wishes to raise money for a variety of things, including classroom supplies, books and technology.
Those in attendance at The Renaissance Faire enjoyed swordplay demos by The Society for Creative Anachronism (The Shire of Arenal), a bounce castle, a battle pit, a treasure hunt and much more.
The senior class performed a special rendition of William Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew,” which they called “Shrewd.”
Musical entertainment was provided by the school’s Guitar Ensemble.
First National Bank &Trust, NHS Interact Club and B&T Barbecue sponsored the event.
