Audrey Inez Hammond
ATMORE - Audrey Inez Hammond, 96, of Atmore died Saturday, April 19, 2008 in Atmore.
She was retired from the Escambia County School System as a lunch room supervisor for more than 17 years, born in Jay, Fla. on Nov. 22, 1911 to the late Joseph Charlie and Pattie Augusta Dixon Jones. She was a member of community of Christ Church of Atmore where she was a Sunday School teacher for children up to adults. A member of the Homemakers Club receiving a certificate for 50 years, a member of the Art’s Council and had been a president for many years and a member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary for more than 10 years, after retiring she started selling many of her paintings and was also known for her roses and animal paintings and scenery portrait and known as a seamstress for many people in this area. She was a previous member of McCoy Chapter No. 34 Eastern Stars.
Her husband, Samuel L. Hammond; four brothers, Deuward Jones, Joseph “Jake” Jones, Edward Jones and Aubrey Jones; three sisters, Louise Jones Nolin, Lonie Jones Hodge and Dorothy Jones preceded her in death.
Survivors include, one sister, Bobbie Lucille Merchant of Memphis, Tenn.; three sister-in-laws, Maureen Jones, Annette Brown and Freddie Hammond; a special niece, Helen Byrd; a special caregiver, Lilly Dixon and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Benny Barnes, Elder Charles McPherson and Elder Glen Wardrop officiating and Eulogy by Nell Willis. Interment followed in Serenity Gardens. Active pallbearers were Elder Glen Wardrop, Wallace Byrd, Chris Byrd, Donald Smith, Randal White and Gary Helton. Honorary pallbearers were, Becky Phillips, David Jones and the Homemakers Club.
Family received friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time April 22, 2008 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of all arrangements.
Charlie F. Lyons Jr.
ATMORE - Mr. Charlie F. Lyons Jr., 70, of Atmore died Saturday, April 19, 2008 at his residence.
Mr. Lyons was a native of Conecuh Co. (Evergreen) and had been a resident of Atmore for most of his life. He attended school at Escambia County Training School. He was a member of El Bethel Holiness Church and a retired City of Atmore employee.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories, a sister, Annie M. Carter of Atmore and a brother, Clayton (Carolyn) Stallworth of Pensacola, Fla.
Public viewing will be held from 2 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at the Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2008 at the El Bethel Holiness Church in Atmore with Pastor Louis Banks officiating. Interment will be held in the Fairview cemetery with Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC of Atmore directing.
Claud Lee Payne
OAK GROVE, Fla. - Claud Lee Payne, 72, of Oak Grove, Fla. died Friday, April 18, 2008 in Pensacola.
He was retired as a Chief Petty Officer with the Navy and the Escambia County, Fla. Board of Education.
His wife, Daphine Payne and one brother, Edward Payne preceded him in death.
Survivors include, his wife, Carolyn Penton-Payne; two sons, Richard Lee Payne and William Lee Rigby, all of Oak Grove, Fla.; one daughter, Margaret Anne Perry (Les) of Columbia, S.C.; one sister, Lavonne Hansen of Seguin, Texas; eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008 from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Brian Kinsey and the Rev. Roy Chewing officiating. Interment followed in Oak Grove cemetery. Grandsons will be pallbearers. Family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2008 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Eunice “Toot” Johnson
Funeral services for Mrs. Eunice “Toot” Johnson, 80, of Atmore will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the second Mt. Triumph Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe L. Hayes, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery with Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC of Atmore directing.

ATMORE - Mr. Larry Howard, 51, of Atmore died Saturday, April 19, 2008 at his residence.

Mamie Boutwell Lowrey
CENTURY, Fla. - Mrs. Mamie Boutwell Lowrey, 88, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2008 in Jay, Fla.
Mrs. Lowrey was a native of Flomaton and a resident of Century, Fla. for most of her life. She was a former employee of Vanity Fair for 24 years and had attended the Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Church.
Her husband, the Rev. Jacob Harold Lowrey, and a daughter, Betty Martin, preceded her in death.
Survivors include, three daughters, Barbara Jean (Curtis) Jernigan of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Bonnie Jeanice (Harold) Pettis of Abbeville and Brenda Jane (Tommy) Sellers of Brewton; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, April 23, 2008 at the Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Church with Bro. Shelton Kindig and Bro. Harold Pettis officiating. Burial will follow at Beulah Chapel cemetery. Visitation was held from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Dr. Twynette Wells Watson Yeager
MARION - Longtime Alabama educator and community leader, Dr. Twynette Wells Watson Yeager of Marion passed away April 20, 2008 in Huntsville. Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008 in Marion at Siloam Baptist Church, where she was a loyal member for more than 45 years. Dr. David Potts, Dr. Earl Tew and Mark Tew officiated and Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel will be directed. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2008 in her hometown of Atmore at Oak Hill cemetery with Dr. Norman McCrummen officiating.
Dr. Yeager is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas B. Yeager; her parents and two sisters, Mrs. Melvin Nall and Mrs. Henry Love.
Dr. Yeager is survived by her two sons, William B. Watson Jr. (Mary Elizabeth) of Huntsville and Byron W. Watson (Jean) of Newbern; daughter, Karen W. Thomas (John) of Huntsville; stepdaughter, Susan Y. Wilbourne (Perry) of Foley; eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Dr. Yeager was born on Feb. 18, 1924 in Atmore to the Rev. O.E. and Betty Lee Webb Wells. She graduated from Howard College (Sanford University) and received her masters and doctorate degrees in Education from the University of Alabama.
She began her career at First Baptist Church in Atmore where she was director of religious education. After serving as guidance counselor at Selma High School, Dr. Yeager became director of admissions at Judson College. From 1962-1989, she held the positions of professor of education, chair of the Department of Education, acting academic dean and dean of students, mentoring young professionals who are in Education leadership positions over the state and beyond.
After retirement, Dr. Yeager entered public service and spent eight years on the Marion City Council. Other involvements were the Perry County Chamber of Commerce, the Alabama Historical Commission, Marion City School Board as director of curriculum projects, Marion Academy Board, Board of Directors of Seeds of Hope and the Committee of Humanities in Alabama.
Of her many awards and recognitions, Dr. Yeager received the Alabama Volunteer of the Year Award, Samford University School of Business Distinguished Alumni Award, honorary member of Alabama Senior Citizens Hall of Fame and the AAA Silver Star Award from the Associates of Alabama Agencies on Aging. She is listed as Who’s Who in Alabama and Who’s Who of American Women. She was the first woman to serve on the Radio and Television Commission of the Southeast Baptist Convention.
Dr. Yeager will forever be remembered as “Twink” by her family and friends and by hundreds of her students as “Judson Girl”. She will be memorialized in the City of Marion by her visible projects that she championed and her optimism for progress. Her energy extended into business and the arts, helping make Marion a lovely place to live and visit. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews, Kevin Watson, Wells Watson, David Watson, David Boykin, Lee Pilleteri, Chad Eads, Billy Lamb, Henry Love Jr. and Mel Nall. Honorary pallbearers will be, Roy A. Barnett Jr., John W. Anderson Jr., Dr. William Shane Lee, M.D. Corin Harrison Jr., Marion Mayor, Anthony Long, Dr. Paul Reitzer and former mayor of Marion Edward Daniel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made in Dr. Twynette Yeager’s memory to O.E. Winston Stedham
FLOMATON - Mr. Winston Stedham, 65, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2008 in Brewton.
Mr. Stedham was a native of Chumuckla, Fla. and a resident of Flomaton for the past 43 years. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid outdoorsman loved to hunt, fish and loved livestock. He was a brick mason for 45 years where he was dedicated to excellence.
His parents, Bub and Lucile Stedham and a brother, Clyde Stedham, preceded him in death.
Survivors include, his wife of 43 years, Linda Fay Stedham of Flomaton; three daughters, Audrey Killam (Dewayne) of Flomaton, Angela Wright (Guy) of Flomaton and Amanda Stedham of Flomaton; two brothers, Charles Stedham (Myra Jean) of Atmore and Carl Stedham (Flo) of Bay Minette; six sisters, Virginia McKelvin of Jay, Barbara Jean Levins (Hubert) of Cantonment, Annie Ruth Kelley (Tink), Dorothy Owens (Tommy) of Jay, Lillian Ward (Roy) of Jay and Amelia Stedham of Jay; three grandchildren, Joshua Northrop of Flomaton, Aubrey Madison Wright of Flomaton and Jacob Wright of Flomaton; a mother-in-law, Eunice Lambeth of Flomaton and many nieces, nephews and longtime family friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. J.D. Renfroe and the Rev. Leo Kent officiating. Visitation was held Monday, April 21, 2008 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Tracy Stedham, Stacey Stedham, Eric Stedham, Dale Stedham, Terry Kelly and Jeff Kelly. Honorary pallbearers were Greg Cotton, Jim Settle, Tommy Abrams, Darrell Fore, Edmond Knowles, Joe Jones, Herman Armstrong, Carl Gandy, Jr. Blackmon and Billy Blackmon.
Zeta Mae Porter
BAY MINETTE - Mrs. Zeta Mae Porter, 81, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2008 in Bay Minette.
Mrs. Porter was a native of Stockton and a resident of Perdido for most of her life. She had worked at the Alabama Dry Dock and Shipbuilding Company in Mobile in WWII and had attended the Lottie Baptist Church.
Two sons, Melton Hadley and Steve Hadley, preceded him in death.
Survivors include, four sons, Gilbert Hadley of Perdido, Leo Hadley of Perdido, Tony Hadley of Mize, Miss. and Mack Hadley of Rabun; her daughter, Daisy Coleman of Tensaw; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; her brother, Jerry Hall of Perdido and two sisters, Sadie Hadley Johnson of Perdido and Myrtle Rutherford of Atmore.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at the Lottie Baptist Church with the Rev. Henry Wilson and the Rev. Chris Pruitt officiating. Burial followed at Lottie Baptist cemetery. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until funeral time Monday, April 21, 2008 at the Lottie Baptist Church. Pallbearers were Glen Hadley, Dallas Hadley, Larry Hadley, Ephan Hall, Lamar Hadley and Dewayne Hall.
Albert Gerald Dunn
FLOMATON - Mr. Albert Gerald Dunn, 83, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2008 at a local hospital.
Mr. Dunn was a native and former resident of Mobile and a resident of Flomaton for the past 11years. He was a Veteran of WWII, a member of the Carney Masonic Lodge No. 549, the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 188, a machinist for 40 years in Mobile and attended the Little Escambia Baptist Church.
Survivors include, his wife of 11 years, Anna B .McKee Dunn of Flomaton; two sons, Stein J. Farrior of Waynesboro, Miss. and Tommy Allgood of Flomaton; his daughter, Lecta Annette Allgood Johnson of Purvis, Miss.; nine step grandchildren; 10 step great grandchildren and a sister, Lucy Davis of Wewahitchka, Fla.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today, April 23, 2008 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Hogg officiating. Burial will follow at Little Escambia Cemetery with military honors and Masonic honors. Visitation was held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be his Masonic Brothers.
Gail Elizabeth (Frey) Kling Weaver
LANCASTER, Pa. - Gail Elizabeth (Frey) Kling Weaver, 85, of Lititz, Pa. entered into rest unexpectedly at Lancaster General Hospital on Friday, April 18, 2008.
Born in Chambersburg, Pa. where she was a daughter of the late Christian and Emma (Reitz) Frey and was the wife of Alvin Weaver.
In addition to her parents, Gail was preceded in death by her first husband, the Rev. C. Richard Kling; a daughter Eunice Marie; a brother James Frey; two sisters, Verna Bauman, Elta Weaver and a step sister, Esther Hoover.
Besides her husband, Gail is survived by two sons, J. Nelson (Marie Forney) Kling of Lancaster, Pa. and Gerald F. (D.J. Weaver) Kling of Smokestown, Pa.; four grandchildren; a brother, Harold Frey; a sister, Jean Weaver and a stepsister, Ruth Hershey. Also surviving are, Alvin’s children, Yvonne Weaver of Lebanon, Pa., Jesse (Reiff) Weaver of Lebannon, Pa. Deborah (Lester) Weaver of Ephrata, Pa., Beth ( Elias) of Bethel, Pa. and Judith (Jeffery) Bohlen of Lancaster, Pa. and Alvin’s 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A homemaker, Gail was a member of Millport Mennonite Church in Pennsylvania. She, along with her first husband C. Richard Kling, was involved in Church planting in Atmore for 38 years. She volunteered with Jubilee Ministries and at Landis Homes and was known for her generous hospitality. At 18 years of age, Gail started a daily diary which she continued all of her life.
A viewing was held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2008 at Landis Homes, West Bethany Chapel, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, Pa. A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Millport Mennonite Church, 820 Log Cabin Road, Leola (Warwick Twp.), Pa. Bishop Nelson Martin and Pastor Clyde Hollinger officiated. Burial will take place at Hess Mennonite Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
