Cougars win state title

The Escambia Academy junior varsity boys’ track team dominated the competition again Saturday earning them the AISA Class 1A-2A state title.
The Cougars outscored Prattville 206 to 48 to claim the championship. Sumter finished third with 42 points.
Nick Flowers and Thomas Moore both ended the meet, which was held in Canoe, with 34 individual points earning them co-MVP honors.
Eight teams competed in the Class 1A-2A division and seven went head-to-head in Class 3A. Gibson said being the host site worked out well.
The following boys placed in the meet:
The Cougars’ 4×100-meter relay team comprised of Cameron Macks, Chris Macks, Carter and Sawyer, finished first, and the 4×400-meter relay team made up of Gaige Schlegal, Caleb Schlegal, Brandon Goddard and Braxton Chastang claimed second place.
Although the girls’ track team did not place in the overall competition two girls placed individually. Carlie Broughton finished second in the discuss and Kristen Matthews placed fourth in the one-mile event.
